Patent number: 6116568Abstract: A reinforced box-like structure for forming a void area in a concrete formation. The structure includes a bottom panel having a plurality of spaced apart, parallel base partitions and a top panel having a plurality of spaced apart, parallel top partitions. The base partitions extend across the bottom panel and in a direction normal to the bottom panel, and the top partitions extend across the top panel and in a direction normal to the top panel. Each of the base partitions and top partitions include a plurality of double-thickness walls with a plurality of slots therein and flat top edges between the slots. The structure is assembled by superimposing the top panel over the bottom panel such that the base partitions extend transversely relative to the top partitions.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1998Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Void Form International Ltd.Inventors: Michael L. Rosenblat, Timothy J. Isles, Louis C. Dufault

Patent number: 6050043Abstract: A completely closed and reinforced box-like structure for forming a void area in a concrete formation is constructed of a flat sheet that is scored with a plurality of parallel crease lines and features a side edge reinforcing panel. The reinforcing panel has a plurality of slots thereon. A plurality of interior and end pieces are slit scored so that they may be folded to provide interior and end support units. The support units define a plurality of spaced apart partitions having a plurality of slots and flat support surfaces thereon. The structure is assembled by initially folding the side edge reinforcing panel into a position generally normal to the flat sheet to define a longitudinal rib. The support units are then attached to the longitudinal rib by registering the slots in the partitions in interlocking relationship with corresponding slots on the rib.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1998Date of Patent: April 18, 2000Assignee: Void Form International Ltd.Inventors: Michael L. Patent number: 5855808Abstract: This invention is a paper-based concrete form member and a method for using it. The forms may be made from layers of paper honeycomb material or corrugate. The forms may be structured to be hollow, if so desired. They are principally useful in forming recesses or voids in concrete structures although they may be used to form the edges of concrete products during construction of these products.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1997Date of Patent: January 5, 1999Assignee: Damage Prevention Products Corp.Inventor: Frank B. Patent number: 5702628Abstract: A casting is produced using a non-sand plastic core. The plastic core is made of a thermoplastic resin and set in a casting mold so as to form a cavity in the casting mold. A molten metal such as aluminum is poured under pressure into the cavity to form the casting (product). The plastic core maintains its initial shape during casting. The remaining heat of the casting or the solidifying metal causes the plastic core to melt after the casting so that the molten plastic core is easily removed.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1993Date of Patent: December 30, 1997Inventor: Masaru Nemoto

Patent number: 5328142Abstract: A lightweight concrete forming tube is disclosed, and wherein the tube has a very thin wall of wound paper layers which permit the tube to be collapsed and wound into a reel to facilitate shipment and storage. In use, the desired length is severed from the reel, and the severed length is opened and positioned about a vertically disposed steel reinforcing structure. Concrete is then poured into the opened tube, and the hydrostatic pressure of the liquid concrete causes the tube to assume a circular cross-section and straight vertical configuration. Upon hardening of the concrete, the tube is severed with a knife and removed, leaving a formed concrete column of circular and straight configuration.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1992Date of Patent: July 12, 1994Assignee: Sonoco Products CompanyInventor: Emile E. Patent number: 4957270Abstract: A concrete column forming tube is provided for receiving poured concrete therein to produce a concrete column and which is characterized by producing surface characteristics on the concrete column including a matte finish without seam lines of the forming tube. A flexible cylindrical liner is positioned in a generally friction-fit relationship within an elongate rigid cylindrical tube constructed of partially-overlapped spirally-wound plies of paper adhered together and defining an inside wall surface having spiral seam lines thereon. The flexible liner is constructed of a paperboard layer secured at butted edges and having an inside wall surface of desired paper fiber matte texture and a thickness sufficient to bridge and cover the spiral seam lines on the inside wall surface of the rigid tube to prevent the formation of seam lines on the outside surface of the produced concrete column.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1989Date of Patent: September 18, 1990Assignee: Sonoco Products CompanyInventors: Tony F. Patent number: 4685267Abstract: A reinforced fiberboard box for creating a void in and under concrete formations. A single piece of double faced, corrugated fiberboard is defined by a face, a bottom, a pair of end flaps, and a pair of side flaps. The end flaps are folded into at least four uniformly shaped partitions which are subsequently folded onto the face of the fiberboard and are aligned along the longitudinal axis to create a box-like structure. Pairs of side flaps are then wrapped around the sides and top of the partitions to form a completely closed, internally reinforced, box-like structure. A portion of the side flaps are tucked inwardly, intersecting the partitions so that slots in the side flaps interlock with slots in the partitions which prevents the box void from unfolding during use.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1983Date of Patent: August 11, 1987Assignee: Deslauriers, Inc.Inventor: Gary L. Patent number: 4595168Abstract: The present invention relates to a disposable concrete forming apparatus. The apparatus includes an elongate, tubular and rigid form having at least one inner wall surface defining an enclosure in which concrete can be poured and allowed to harden. The apparatus further includes a flexible liner of predetermined thickness which lines the inner surface to preclude formation of form lines on the hardened concrete that correspond to markings on the inner wall surface of the rigid form. The flexible liner has at least one outside wall surface for each inner wall surface and is movable between a compressed position permitting insertion of the liner into the enclosure and a normal expanded position with the outside wall surface pressing against the inner wall surface of the rigid form. As a result, no gap is present between the inner wall surface and the outer wall surface.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1984Date of Patent: June 17, 1986Assignee: Perma Tubes Ltd.Inventor: Paul Goodwin
