  • Patent number: 9068888
Abstract: An opto-isolation circuit (300) is provided, including an optocoupler (303) configured to optically transfer a raw output signal, a conversion circuit (317) coupled to an optocoupler output and configured to convert the raw output signal into a predetermined converted signal, and a control circuit (306) coupled to the optocoupler output. The control circuit (306) is configured to generate an autonomous control signal from the raw output signal after the raw output signal passes through the optocoupler (303), wherein the autonomous control signal is generated only if the raw output signal exceeds a predetermined conversion threshold, and control the conversion circuit (317) and convert the raw output signal into the predetermined converted signal if the autonomous control signal is generated by the control circuit (306) and output the raw output signal to an output port if the autonomous control signal is not generated by the control circuit (306).

  • Publication number: 20150144818
Abstract: A self-protecting valve assembly for use in conjunction with a sump pump test and monitoring system having a test control module which generates a valve control signal for opening the valve to initiate a test cycle. The valve assembly includes an electrically-actuated valve which is responsive only to a valve-actuating signal and not to the valve control signal. A conversion circuit in the valve assembly converts the valve control signal to a valve actuating signal to actuate the valve. This protects the valve from receiving a false actuating signal in the event of a failure in the test control module.

  • Patent number: 9032565
Abstract: A faucet assembly includes a base for mounting adjacent a basin of a sink and a spout projecting upward and outward away from the base and terminating at a water outlet. A light emitter is mounted to one section of the spout and emits a beam of light directed toward another section of the spout, wherein the beam of light does not intersect a region beneath the outlet. A light sensor, mounted to the spout, produces a signal indicating whether the beam of light is striking the light sensor. A control circuit responds to the signal by opening a valve that thereby conveys water to the spout.

  • Patent number: 9027903
Abstract: Power-efficient actuator apparatus and methods. In one exemplary embodiment, the actuator assembly utilizes a shape memory alloy (SMA) filament driven by an electronic power source to induce movement in the underlying assembly to actuate a load (e.g., water valve). In addition, a circuit board is included which allows the actuator assembly to be readily incorporated or retrofit into a wide range of systems such that the signal characteristics of the supply line can, among other applications, be conditioned in order to protect the SMA filament. Furthermore, the circuit board can also readily be adapted for use with “green” power sources such as photovoltaic systems and the like. Methods for manufacturing and utilizing the aforementioned actuator assembly are also disclosed.
