  • Patent number: 4322058
Abstract: Valve apparatus for controlling flow of particulate material, such as sand or other abrasive material, from a tank or hopper. The valve has a unitary plunger which is movable axially with respect to a lateral particulate material inlet between positions closing and opening the inlet, the plunger being moved by rotation of a threaded portion of the plunger through an internally threaded cap or bonnet opening. The valve body passage through which the plunger is disposed, and the plunger itself, are formed to have abrasion-resistant surfaces. A lateral air pipe nipple sealed to the valve body receives the abrasive material flowing through the valve for use in sand blasting operations.

  • Patent number: 4294301
Abstract: A valve for a tubeless tire which is adapted to be secured in a bore of a tire rim comprises a tubular valve body with an outer rim surface engagement flange formed on its periphery and spaced from an inner rim surface engagement flange by the length of the bore through the tire rim. At least one of the outer or inner rim surface engagement flanges is deformed into engagement with the associated tire rim surface. Preferably, a sleeve of a soft material is located around the body between these flanges and it is deformed and compressed into a groove formed by the respective flanges over each end surface of the tire rim. The construction is such that when the valve body is inserted from the exterior of the rim to the interior, the inner flange is formed by bending over the end of an internally formed sleeve which encompasses the end of a soft body or gasket and bends it into engagement with the associated inner surface of the tire rim.

  • Patent number: 4267972
Abstract: A gated irrigation pipe is operated by a pneumatic control system which automatically opens and closes the gates. Each gate is slidable along the pipe surface and is coupled to a pair of parallel air conduits extending longitudinally along the pipe. The conduits are connected midway between their ends to a common movable pneumatic cylinder which receives therein a piston fixed to the exterior of the pipe. The conduits communicate with opposite ends of the cylinder, and serve as both an air line to the cylinder and an operating linkage which opens and closes the gates and which will not cause damage to the gates in response to differentials of expansion and contraction. A plurality of pipes thus equipped are serially connected to form an irrigation pipeline and the air conduits are interconnected at the pipe joints by flexible hose couplings which may be preset any time during each watering interval.

  • Patent number: 4151978
Abstract: The invention relates to a valve assembly adapted in conjunction with a valve actuator to provide positive control of the stroke of hydraulic cylinders. The valve is attached to a pressure port on the cylinder and the actuator assembly is positioned on the side of the cylinder and held by means of clamps. The stroke of the cylinder is limited when the actuator arm is clamped on the piston shaft at a distance shorter than the full stroke of the cylinder. In this condition as the shaft moves into the cylinder, the actuator arm contacts closure means within the valve thereby closing off the valve and preventing further retraction of the cylinder. The apparatus of the invention is adapted to be supplied in the kit form and can be readily attached, externally to any existing hydraulic actuator.

  • Patent number: 4146050
Abstract: A valve body for insertion in a fluid line having a sampling passageway extending from the interior to the exterior of the body for sampling from or injecting ingredients into the fluid line. A first annular tapered valve seat in the passageway and a second tubular valve seat in the passageway axially aligned with the first valve seat. A valve stem moves toward and away from said valve seats and includes a first tapered valve element adapted to seat on the first seat and a second cylindrical valve element adapted to seat on the second seat. Means rotatably move the valve stem towards and away from the valve seat for wiping the sealing areas upon closing. A plastic lining covers all of the interior areas of the valve that are exposed to contact with fluid flowing through the valve. The end of the stem moves to a position generally tangent to the internal diameter of the valve body for preventing material buildup in the passageway.

  • Patent number: 4000620
Abstract: A gravitational irrigation system is disclosed which uses preformed, water-impervious, flexible, collapsible, plastic tubing as a replacement for an open ditch. The tubing is laid in a shallow trench along the area to be irrigated and held in place by mounds of soil thrown on the top thereof. Annular apertures are cut in the tubing at intervals where exit of water is desired. Flexible, annular, open-ended spigots having a flanged end of greater diameter than the diameter of the body of the spigot are inserted, flange end first, into the apertures to form a laterally extending spigot from the tubing. The body of the spigot has an outer diameter approximating the diameter of the cut in the tubing. The flange of the spigot substantially seals against water leakage between the tubing and the flange of the spigot.

  • Patent number: 3937494
Abstract: A bearing system for relatively rotatable liquid conduits such as a rotating sprinkler head mounted on a fixed riser, including a two-piece casing assembly for shielding operative parts of the bearing from intrusion of external dirt and water-borne abrasive material, while permitting leakage liquid within the casing assembly to bleed outwardly, thereby preventing excessive liquid pressure in the assembly. The illustrative system includes a bearing housing having a central vertical bore and a tubular spindle rotatably mounted in the bore and projecting thereabove for attachment to a sprinkler head.
