Abstract: An exemplary door closer includes a housing defining a hydraulic chamber having a hydraulic fluid disposed therein. A pinion is rotatably mounted to the housing and extends into the hydraulic chamber. A piston is mounted for reciprocal movement within the housing, and defines a rack engaged with the pinion. The housing further defines an aperture in fluid communication with the hydraulic chamber. A regulating screw is rotatably mounted within the aperture such that rotation of the regulating screw in a first direction advances the regulating screw into the hydraulic chamber and such that rotation of the regulating screw in an opposite second direction withdraws the regulating screw away from the hydraulic chamber. A stop member is mounted in the aperture such that the stop member limits withdrawing movement of the regulating screw to thereby prevent leaking of the hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic chamber via the aperture.

The spigot includes a valved body and a lever for operating the valve. The lever can be rotated rearwardly from an "off" position to temporarily dispense water, i.e., to dispense water so long as a rearward force is applied to the lever. When the rearward force is relieved, the level automatically returns to the off position. The lever can also be rotated forwardly from the "off" position to continuously dispense water, i.e., to dispense water until the lever is forcefully rotated rearwardly by the user. A stop pin is removably mounted in the lever to prevent the lever from being rotated forwardly from the "off" position until the pin is removed, thereby preventing the continuous dispensing mode from being accidentally initiated.

Abstract: A valve suitable for dispensing effervescent liquids under pressure includes a frusto-conical core member disposed in a similarly configured frusto-conical valve chamber section to both define a restrictive diffusing flow path when the valve is open and the sole pressure seal when the valve is closed. The pressure seal is created along a substantial length of the core member which is preferably made of resiliently compressible plastic to enhance the seal. The outlet spout located downstream of the diffusing flow path is provided with interior baffles to prevent vortical flow and the resulting frothing in the liquid. The valve chamber and components are sloped to assure that all liquid downstream of the seal can flow toward the outlet spout after the valve is closed. Immediately downstream of the diffusing flow path there is a transition path permitting the flowing liquid to expand gradually without cavitation before entering the expanded downstream end of the valve chamber.

Abstract: A refueling check valve assembly which provides for rapid, efficient, and safe refueling of compressed natural gas powered vehicles is provided and includes a receptacle adapted to mate with a fuel supply nozzle and a valve body having first and second gas flow passages therethrough. The respective first ends of the first and second gas flow passages communicate with the receptacle, while the respective second ends of the first and second gas flow passages are adapted to communicate with a fuel storage vessel, typically through a fuel supply line. A check valve is positioned in the first gas flow passage of the valve body and is normally biased into a closed position to prevent the flow of gas through the first gas flow passage. • Patent number: 5417201
Abstract: A portable thermosyphon water heating system for use by outdoor enthusiasts, or others at locations remote from a conventional supply of hot water. Water is heated by an open campfire flame in an enclosed heat exchanger, and is circulated between the heat exchanger and a portable non-pressurized reservoir by thermosyphon action. The hot water returning to the reservoir is discharged through a floating transfer conduit assembly, so the discharge rises and falls with the water level in the reservoir. The floating nature of the hot water return allows the majority of water within the reservoir to be used before refilling is needed, while maintaining thermosyphon action. A method of heating a liquid using the system described above is also provided, along with a retrofit apparatus for retrofitting existing reservoirs to use the thermosyphon principles and components of the present invention.

Abstract: A normally-closed valve that can be easily connected and disconnected. Disposed in the fluid passageway through the valve is a flexible, resilient disk and a pin mounted adjacent to the disk. The disk is mounted in a wide portion of the passageway and is held in place by the narrow portions of the passageway. The disk fits snugly into the passageway so that the edge of the disk forms a seal with the wall of the passageway. A nozzle is inserted into the passageway and urges the pin against the disk, causing the disk to deform. When the disk deforms, its effective diameter decreases, and its edge separates from the passageway wall, permitting fluid to flow through the valve. The narrow sections of the passageway wall have channels disposed therein for permitting flow when the disk is deformed. The pin also has channels on its surface to permit flow around it.

A low profile valve housing with a valve such as a butterfly valve and a means for opening and closing the valve is assembled to a saddle on the tank bottom by a number of bolts located around the periphery of the valve housing and engaging in threaded blind holes in the tank saddle. A discharge nozzle is mounted on the lower face of the valve housing in such a way that the discharge nozzle mounting can be sheared away from the rest of the assembly during, for instance, an accident without affecting the integrity of the valve housing itself.

  • Patent number: 3980271
Abstract: The sliding plate of a sliding gate valve has a mounting for a collector nozzle, and a nozzle is releasably coupled to the mounting by means of a releasable fastening which allows ready replacement of the nozzle when worn. The releasable fastening clamps the collector nozzle to its mounting and holds the nozzle in firm abutment with the underside of the sliding plate.

  • Patent number: 3976277
Abstract: A pinch tube type valve adapted to be mounted to a liquid container receiver to accept an elongated flexible outlet tube protruding from a liquid container disposed in the receiver for selective control of liquid flow through the tube from the container. The tube is passed through a passageway in the valve body for selective engagement by a stem which is reciprocable into and out of closing engagement therewith. The passageway is enlarged adjacent the inlet end of the valve body to permit easy insertion of the liquid container outlet tube therethrough. An apertured tube retaining area is disposed adjacent the outlet end of the valve body passageway to receive and retain the tube in a desired position relative to the container receiver to facilitate ease of liquid dispensing operations. The stem may also include a tube engaging protrusion arrangement when the valve is contemplated for use in pressurized liquid systems.
