Patent number: 6042015Abstract: A fail-safe proportional mixing valve is provided that tempers a hot fluid supply by proportional flow from a hot fluid inlet and a cold fluid inlet. The valve includes a fail-safe mechanism disposed within the body of the valve to isolate flow from the hot fluid inlet in the event the temperature of the mixed fluid exceeds a predetermined set point. The valve also includes a check valve in the fluid inlets to prevent backflow in case of failure of a fluid supply. In a further aspect, the cold fluid inlet includes an adjustment set screw to adjust the cold fluid flow into the mixing valve, thereby adjusting the maximum mixed fluid temperature that can be discharged from the valve assembly.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Inventors: Robert Eveleigh, Kevin Kline

Patent number: 4986502Abstract: A drain plug for threaded engagement within a threaded drain opening of a pressurized system to prevent complete removal of the plug before release of any residual pressure within the system. An axially extending groove is formed in the threaded portion of an elongated shank of the plug and terminates in an unthreaded area of the shank adjacent to an enlarged head of the plug. An O-ring is compressed against the pressurized vessel or container when the plug is fully sealed in the threaded opening. The end of the groove adjacent the plug head beings to vent any residual pressure trapped within the pressurized system upon partial unloosening of the plug to relieve pressure while a sufficient number of threads on the inner end of the shank remain engaged within the threaded opening to prevent the plug from being blown out of the hole by any residual pressure. In an alternate embodiment, an axial hole is formed through the center of the shank and communicates with a cross hole to provide the venting for the plug.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1989Date of Patent: January 22, 1991Inventor: Clarence J. Patent number: 4911229Abstract: A manifold and valve system is disclosed for purging air from a closed brine filled loop piping used in conjunction with a water source heat pump. The valves are T-shaped with a closure member or valving member in the top portion which connects with the purge flow conduit.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1988Date of Patent: March 27, 1990Inventor: Arthur H. Patent number: 4718636Abstract: Purge branch coupling for a main flexible hose, reinforced or not, sheathed or unsheathed, of the type having the shape of a tubular insert which is intended to co-operate with a closure piece of its proximal extremity and which is integral with the main hose by moulding coating of a splicing material, particularly comprised of plastic or elastomer material. According to this invention, the tubular insert forming the purge branch coupling comprises a plurality of openings provided in its tubular wall so that the coating of said junction material, which penetrates into said openings during moulding establishes linking bridges between the portions of said coating which envelope the insert, thus providing for the holding in position of said insert. Application for couplings in lines of water, air and fuel circuits in motor vehicles.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1986Date of Patent: January 12, 1988Assignee: HutchinsonInventor: Gilles Briet

Patent number: 4470577Abstract: A bleeder arrangement for a hydraulic system of the type used in vehicle brakes. It includes a bleeder screw and bleeder passage construction which completely protects the bleeder screw threads from any exterior corrosive agents. The screw body is arranged to radially clear the housing in which it is installed so that corrosive action will not tend to seize the screw body to the housing. A seal arrangement also protects the valve portion of the bleeder screw from corrosive action as well as preventing fluid spillage during the bleeding operation.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1982Date of Patent: September 11, 1984Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Edward H.
