  • Patent number: 8783647
Abstract: Methods for controlling flow are described herein that include a valve assembly provided and operated to control the flow from a first conduit to a second conduit. The valve assembly includes an actuator housing enclosing an actuator piston and defining a counter-biasing chamber and a first control chamber on the same side of the actuator piston, and a first pressure control port in fluid communication with the first control chamber. A valve is connected to the actuator piston and a bore passes through both the actuator piston and the valve thereby placing a face of the valve in fluid communication with the counter-biasing chamber. The actuator piston includes a first substrate area that defines a portion of the counter-biasing chamber and a second substrate area that defines a portion of the first control chamber where the surface area of the first substrate area is less than the surface area of the valve face.

  • Patent number: 8777131
Abstract: A springless valve that is used for a liquid sprayer has a body that has an upstream bore that has three parts with increasingly larger cross-sections. A pin portion of a slide/pin combination moves between an open position and a closed position. In the open position, liquid in the first part of the upstream bore flows into inlets in the third part of the upstream bore, through a central passage, to an outlet to a downstream bore. A linearly-moving slide portion on the slide/pin combination fits within a recess in the body, and has resilient arms that engage front and rear radial faces on a narrowed waist on the pin. The arms extend over opposed sides of the narrowed waist, have tangs that lock onto a lower side of that waist, and rigidly connect the slide portion to the pin portion, enabling a user to move the slide/pin combination axially between the open and closed positions.

Abstract: A flow-adjusting valve including a valve base and a valve rod. The valve base has arranged within a valve cavity thereof a valve opening. The valve rod opens or shuts the valve opening. The valve rod is tube-shaped, and the lower part thereof is a cylinder. The valve base has arranged at circumferential positions around the valve opening a sealing stepped surface. A lower end face of the valve rod is sealedly in contact with or disengaged from the sealing stepped surface. Furthermore, the valve opening has protruding upwards along the axial direction thereof a sleeve protrusion part. The sealing stepped surface is arranged within the sleeve protrusion part. The structure of flow-adjusting valve on the one hand balances a refrigerant pressure exerted along the axial direction of the valve rod while on the other hand improves the service life and sealing performance of the valve rod.

  • Patent number: 8573244
Abstract: A relief valve assembly to relieve overpressure of a pressurized fluid. In accordance with some embodiments, the assembly comprises a housing with an inlet and an outlet to form a conduit for a pressurized fluid. A normally closed valve member is axially displaceable within the housing to engage a valve seat to prevent a flow of the pressurized fluid along the conduit. A biasing member applies a bias force to the valve member to retain the valve member against the valve seat. A piston within the valve member contactingly engages the pressurized fluid. A mechanically collapsible member resists axial movement of the piston responsive to said contacting engagement of the pressurized fluid. The piston and collapsible member decouple the bias force supplied by the biasing spring member upon the valve member from a force upon the valve member applied by the pressurized fluid, thereby maintaining a bubble-tight seal.

  • Patent number: 8567427
Abstract: Blowout preventer blocks, each having a channel and plate(s) to close it. The blocks are placed over a pipe through which oil or other fluid is escaping, so that the pipe is in their channels. Alongside the channel in each block are one or more plates, having diameters somewhat larger than the diameter of the channel. Explosive charges propel the plates into the channel to seal it off and stop the leak. When multiple blocks and/or multiple plates in a block are placed over a pipe, the assembly may be referred to as a “Christmas tree.” There are passages that allow the plates to move into place to block the channel. Leading edges of the plates act as male elements that engage female reciprocal ends of the passages to create a seal. Grooves and tunnels in the plates allow fluid to escape into the pipe to ensure a seal.

Abstract: An exhaust gas valve assembly includes a housing defining a cavity therein and having an intake port and an exhaust port. A valve seat has a first axial end secured to the housing and a second axial end that is disposed within but decoupled a distance from the housing. The second axial end defines one or more apertures that provide fluid communication between the intake and exhaust ports. Abstract: A phaser valve for a piston and cylinder assembly helps to keep a pair of pistons in phase with each other. The phaser valve includes a poppet which is slidable between opposing seats of a valve housing. The poppet includes a head and a stem, both the head and the stem having concave portions which facilitate the flow of hydraulic fluid across the valve. The poppet head has two generally conical ends, so that the head makes a fluid-tight seal with a seat when the head is urged towards either seat. Due to its construction, the phaser valve may be built to fit within a very small space, while still allowing a substantial flow of fluid when the head is not in abutment with one of the seats.

The valve includes a valve body carrying the valve seat. The control element is balanced on an outlet side of the valve seat such that the outlet pressure applies approximately no net force to the control element. • Patent number: 7641175
Abstract: A valve body substantially symmetrical about a longitudinal axis has at least one internal space and comprises guide means and two separately formed portions joined by at least one cylindrical web. One or more passages spaced apart from the longitudinal axis allow fluid communication between at least one internal space and space external to the valve body. At least one internal space may be substantially filled with a substantially incompressible flowable substance to facilitate pressure equalization across the valve body. Forging or casting valve body portions to near-net-shape prior to joining minimizes machining necessary to achieve a final desired shape. Increased valve durability and reduced metal wear arise from reduced valve body weight and correspondingly reduced impact loading as the valve body moves to seal against a valve seat. Valve sealing may be aided by an elastomeric seal in a peripheral integral seal retention groove of the valve body.
