  • Patent number: 4585023
Abstract: A packing resistant valve has a gate rotatably mounted within an angled valve body and an inlet face of the gate defines a concave recess for inducing eddy currents in fluid flow impinging thereon. The eddy currents direct fluid flow away from the valve body, reducing the tendency of the fluid to accumulate within the valve body. Because the valve body is angled, material tends to drain from the body under the influence of gravity. Also, the angled configuration results in the formation of an air pocket within the valve body, precluding packing therein. In one embodiment, a mechanical seal is provided to preclude fluid leakage across the valve stem. In a further embodiment of the invention, a diverter valve assembly is disclosed, which includes a diverter plate for preventing the impingement of fluid against the closed valve disk.

  • Patent number: 4543981
Abstract: In order to resist alteration of the spring forces utilized for applying seal pressure between the valve bodies in sliding gate valves for molten metal pouring, particularly those of the manually operated type, the valve support plate and the mounting plate are arranged to form a narrow slot that receives the valve actuator and presents insufficient clearance to permit excessive relative displacement between the valve members. The valve further incorporates releasable attachments, two of which serve as hinge connections for the support plate while the other serves as a latching member. Each of the attachments comprise clevis-mounted eyebolts in which the clevises have predetermined dimensions to establish a fixed, pre-set distance between the plates upon reassembly of the valve after opening and thus insure repeatability of the spatial relationships between the valve bodies and, concomitantly, of the seal pressure between the members.

  • Patent number: 4537386
Abstract: An engine shutdown valve comprises a substantially circular gate valve movable about an axis between open and closed positions within a valve housing mounted in an engine induction manifold. A gate lever connects the gate valve with the axis and a movement mechanism acts to move the lever between the two positions. A latching mechanism holds the gate lever and gate valve in the open position and a release mechanism is operable to release the latching mechanism when desired. The latching release and movement mechanisms are all located in a latch housing which is located exterior of the valve housing and manifold.

  • Patent number: 4432387
Abstract: A rotating disc gate valve for controlling fluid flow in a flow line comprising a valve body having a flow passageway and a cavity transverse to the flow passageway to receive a flow control assembly. The flow control assembly includes first and second valve seat carriers each having a plurality of valve seats thereon which are aligned to form valve seat sets and an independent rotation means for rotating the valve seat carriers whereby replacement valve seats can be axially aligned with the flow passageway without dismantling the valve body. The flow control assembly includes a flow control disc mounted between the valve seat carriers.

  • Patent number: 4381100
Abstract: A gate valve having an expandable valve closure apparatus which is capable of expanding to seal two oppositely located parts in its valve housing. The expandable valve closure apparatus if pivotally mounted for movement on the end of a swing arm member to permit the expandable valve closure apparatus to be moved from its operative position in the vicinity of the ports in the valve housing to its inoperative or stowed position within the valve housing. Expansion of the expandable valve closure apparatus is accomplished by compressed air that is fed into a bellows that forms part of the expandable valve closure apparatus. Contraction of the expandable valve closure apparatus is accomplished by permitting the compressed air to be released from within the bellows and by springs which form part of the expandable valve closure apparatus. Air pressure is also utilized to move the expandable valve closure apparatus from its operative to its inoperative position and from its inoperative to the operative position.

  • Patent number: 4328947
Abstract: A pendulum gate valve with a pressure tight housing and inlet and outlet openings arranged on opposite sides of the housing. The drive rod for the pendulum frame is guided throughout its total path by a joint connected to the pendulum frame which can swivel about the shaft of the pendulum frame but can in addition also move independently of the swiveling motion of the pendulum frame. A guide mechanism is provided for the further movement of the joint outside the swiveling range, which forces the joint onto a path that runs substantially parallel to the drive rod. The guide mechanism consists of a thrust rod forming part of the pressing device which urges the gate valve plate against the sealing bearing surface and which is connected to the drive rod. The thrust rod is mounted in a longitudinally movable manner in the pendulum frame and runs parallel to the drive rod in the closed position of the gate valve plate.

  • Patent number: 4063556
Abstract: A vacuum device for performing medical procedures such as a curettage, or the like. The device includes basically an evacuated vessel, a cannula or some other form of medical implement, and a valve arrangement for selectively applying the vacuum to the cannula. The present disclosure deals specifically with a novel valve arrangement for the device and various vacuum indicators that can be employed to provide a visual indication as to the presence of a vacuum within the vessel.
