The sealing arrangement of the present invention adds secondary and tertiary seals to the conventional packing gland primary seal along the outer surface of the trunnion of such plug type valves. A unique isolated chamber is formed between the secondary and tertiary seals and because of the elastomeric nature of the secondary and tertiary seals, this isolated chamber is bubble tight and thus resists the gradual accumulation of minute leakage, which might otherwise cause false alarms in prior art leakage sensing equipment. Furthermore, the bubble tight feature of a chamber between isolated elastomeric seals, enables purging this chamber for making accurate observations and measurements of true leakage that might otherwise be an environmental hazard.

  • Patent number: 4942897
Abstract: The remote control and remote handling accessory is of such design that an xchange part (7) contains all elements subject to wear of the accessory, while the anti-wear elements, in particular the accessory case (2) remain firmly connected to the pipeline (1). The exchange part (7) and the accessory case (2) are mutually fixed by a clamping bracket (9). The exchange part (7) comprises a central bolt (16) which is displaceable with respect to the other components of the exchange part (7) and is supported in both axial directions by the clamping bracket (9) which is adapted to be swung open. In this manner the exchange part can be pressed into and pulled out of the anti-wear part (accessory case 2). The other components of the exchange part (7) are connected to a cover (15) with respect to which the central bolt (16) is rotatable, the cover (15) being secured to a slide shoe (8) of a stationary guide rail (4).

  • Patent number: 4932348
Abstract: This invention relates to a remotely operated valve for closing and opening a conduit in communication with the interior of a boat to preclude water from entering or leaving the boat except when desired by the operator by the boat. The valve has application either as a means for keeping fresh water in the live well of the boat or as a means for bailing unwanted water from the interior of the boat. The valve has a main housing including a tapered bore and openings in communication with an interior water retaining portion of the boat and the exterior of the boat. A spring-urged tapered valve element having a passageway therein is mounted within the tapered bore of the main housing and is rotatable between first and second positions to bring the passageway of the valve element into and out of alignment with the openings in the main housing.

  • Patent number: 4901763
Abstract: A fluid valve apparatus has a spool mounted for movement within a spool cavity of a body, the body having inlet and outlet ports therein. The spool has a spool closure portion which is adapted for sealing against the outlet port when positioned thereagainst. The spool closure portion is responsive to fluid pressure acting on the spool which cooperates with the spool so as to displace the closure portion against the outlet portion to improve sealing therewith. The apparatus is particularly adapted for manufacturing by plastic injection, which provides a low cost, lightweight, corrosion resistant, easily adaptable valve assembly particularly for use in controlling liquid flows in medium bore pipes as used in forest fire fighting.

  • Patent number: 4890817
Abstract: A quarter-turn valve comprises a housing formed with a cylindrical socket, and a cylindrical plug receivable within the socket and having a bore extending diametrically through the plug for establishing communication between the inlet and outlet nipples in the open position of the plug, but terminating the communication when the plug is turned to its closed position one-quarter turn from the open position. The plug is formed with a finger-piece projecting from the housing for manually rotating the plug to its open, closed or an intermediate position. The plug is closed at its bottom, such that the fluid flowing through the bore subjects the plug to a fluid pressure which is balanced on all sides of the plug, thereby facilitating turning of the plug and preventing its accidental ejection when subjected to a high pressure.

  • Patent number: 4846213
Abstract: A fluid control valve with a rotatable shaft and a ball valve mounted within a flow bore. The ball has one or more V-shaped grooves for controlling fluid flow. In the closed position the ball and walls of the flow bore are in a continuous line sealing contact. The valve may be mounted and opened to enable complete drainage of fluid in the connecting pipeline which is an advantage in sanitary applications. The ball and shaft are part of a removable bonnet assembly with the ball inserted into the flow bore through an aperture in the valve body. A one-piece seal in the aperture provides a static seal between the valve body and bonnet and a dynamic shaft seal.
