Double Or Oppositely Acting Motor Units Patents (Class 251/31)
  • Patent number: 4140238
Abstract: A nozzle shut-off valve for injection molding machine for plastic material, especially thermoplastic material, has two pneumatic cylinder-and-plunger units. One such unit has its plunger mounted to reciprocate so as to block the passageway of the plastics through the nozzle. The first such plunger and cylinder unit is provided with a pilot passage in the valve nozzle so that the pressure of molten plastic can be used to open it. The second such unit is much smaller diameter and has its plunger mounted to block the pilot passage so that the second unit in effect becomes a pilot valve and controls the application of fluid pressure through the pilot passage to the first unit plunger or blocking plunger.

  • Patent number: 4138089
Abstract: A diaphragm-actuated slide valve where spring force is utilized to urge the moving slide valve element against the stationary valve element. To obtain a good seal at the valving ports with a minimum of spring force, the moving slide valve element is made to present a convex contact face to the stationary valve element at the port region of the moving valve element. At the same time, a clamping connection of the fluid tube to the moving slide valve element is obtained. The moving slide valve element is in the form of an apertured, initially flat block. The fluid tube passes through an aperture in an initially curved spring clamp plate provided with clamping serrations in the tube-receiving aperture, the tube engaging in a counterbore in the valve block at its port. Clamping screws engage through opposite parts of the clamp plate and threadedly engage the valve block at opposite spaced locations relative to the tube.

  • Patent number: 4126293
Abstract: A feathering valve system for modulating the fluid inflow to a selected one of first and second spool ends of a spool valve assembly. A controller is electrically coupled to first and second solenoid operated pilot valve assemblies for selectively (1) maintaining the pilot valve assemblies in a valve closed state without bleed flow through the pilot orifices or (2) supplying a predetermined value electrical signal to either, but not both, of the valve assemblies for actuating one of the assemblies to an open position related to the value of the signal. Fluid under a substantially constant pilot pressure is applied under the poppets of both valve assemblies. Fluid flow is taken from above the poppet of an actuated valve assembly to a respective spool end whereby the spool moves to a position which is a function of the actuating signal value.

  • Patent number: 4099904
Abstract: A nozzle shut-off valve for placing between the injection apparatus and the mold cavity uses two pins of different lengths for the valve elements and switches air pressure back and forth between pistons on opposite (outer) ends of the pins. The pistons have no fixed connection to the pins. Each pin is actuated either by force from the piston on its outer end or pressure by the plastic melt on its innermost other end. The longer pin has a length sufficient to extend completely across the injection passage and block it to prevent any flow. The shorter pin is deliberately made short enough that it cannot block the passage. The valve is actuated by air pressure on the two pistons in timed relation to injection molding events. Pressure on the piston engaging the longer pin compels blocking of the injection passage during plastication. Switching of pressure to the other pin during injection permits the pressure of molten plastic to spread the pins apart whereupon injection proceeds in the ususal manner.

  • Patent number: 4034958
Abstract: A device for opening and closing a rotary valve by remote control comprising a cylinder having a main bore in which a movable unit is slidably mounted in fluid tight manner and which can be displaced in opposite directions by a pressurized fluid supplied by either of two pressurized fluid sources which can be remotely actuated in independent fashion. A sequencing mechanism is mounted in the cylinder for simultaneously applying the pressurized fluid from an activated source to a corresponding end face of the movable unit while connecting the other end face with the atmosphere. The movement of the slidable unit is transmitted to the rotary valve through a rack and pinion arrangement and a linkage composed of cranks and a connecting rod so arranged that when the valve is in either of its end positions it cannot produce movement of the linkage due to alignment of the axis of rotation of the pinion and the connection points of the rod to the cranks.

  • Patent number: 4014509
Abstract: A proportional electromagnetic-type direction-and throttle-controlling valve comprising a spring centered valve spool in a valve body, a pressure reducing valve, two flow restricting orifices, two DC solenoid controlled poppet valves and a vent port in each pressure chamber. Supply flow reduced to a fixed low pressure is divided into two branch lines with flow restricting orifices. The pilot pressure in each restricted flow passage with vent port is controlled by a DC solenoid-controlled poppet valve. The pilot pressure acting on the main spool end moves the spool against the spool centering spring force proportionally to the input DC current. Therefore, the flow rate through the throttling gap between the spool land and the mating valve body is controlled proportionally to input DC current. Vent ports are provided for rapid action of the spool.

Abstract: An extremely fast-acting valve operator including a piston slidable in a pneumatic cylinder and connected by means of a chain and sprocket with the rotatable actuating shaft of a valve so that rapid movement of the piston imparts a rapid rotation to the shaft to open the valve. The piston is subjected to a high pressure gas but is initially restrained against motion within its cylinder by means of a quick release mechanism whereby release of said mechanism results in the piston undergoing immediate and rapid movement responsive to the expanding gas to thereby rapidly open the valve. • Patent number: 3985154
Abstract: A four-way valve assembly is provided which includes a main valve member operable by pilot valve actuation. A particular feature of the construction of the valve assembly is that the main valve member stroke length may vary over a relatively wide range, enabling the valve to be produced in a variety of sizes, without affecting the pilot valve operation. The main valve member includes a first side and a second side. The first side of the main valve member has a hollow formed in it, while the second side has a flat area formed in it. The flat area is utilized to mount a pilot assembly to the valve. Means for operating the valve assembly are operatively connected to the pilot assembly so as to permit the pilot assembly to move with the main valve while the operating means remains stationary. All connections required for operation of the main valve are carried internally of a valve enclosure.
