Abstract: A valve includes a stem seal assembly that prevent fluid flow in a first direction and vents in a second direction opposite the first direction. The assembly includes a packing assembly positioned within a valve stem opening of a valve body of the valve to seal a valve stem to the valve body. The packing assembly includes a first seal and a second seal preventing passage of fluid from a body cavity of the valve body to an exterior of the valve body along the valve stem while venting fluid from an exterior of the valve body to the body cavity along the valve stem. The packing assembly isolates the first seal and the second seal so that a load applied to the first seal ring is not transferred to the second seal ring.

Typically, the sealing assembly of the present invention adapted for use with, for example, a dual-chamber orifice fitting. The sealing assembly comprises a drive, a carrier, a strip, a stop and a guide. The drive is actuateable for movement. The carrier is associated with the drive and moveably actuated by the drive. The strip is engaged with the drive for moving with the drive or at a right angle to the drive. The stop is engageable with the strip such that when the strip and the stop are engaged, the strip moves at a right angle to the drive, and when the strip and the stop are not engaged, the strip moves with the drive. The guide secures the strip, the carrier and the drive for operation in any orientation. When the stop is sufficiently displaced from the drive and the strip, the opening in the seat is unobstructed.

In one embodiment the packing box is downwardly displaced by hydraulic pressure, such as hydraulic pressure supplied from within the valve body.

Abstract: A backseat assembly for an expanding gate valve includes a sealing member slidingly disposed about the stem and a biasing member biasing the sealing member away from the gate. Upon the gate and segment traveling to the open position of the valve, the segment engages the valve housing and stops its further movement. The stem and gate continue their travel with the sealing member engaging an annular seat on the housing for sealing between the stem and housing. The sealing member includes an annular resilient sealing member which initially engages the annular seat of the housing. The biasing member places a preload on the sealing member such that upon engagement of the annular seat by the sealing member, there is initial sealing force placed on the sealing engagement. The fluid pressures within the valve chamber add an additional sealing force to the sealing member.

Abstract: A stream selector for a process analyzer. The stream selector includes a valve module having two block valves and a bleed valve. In a first mode, the block valves are closed and the bleed valve is open. In a second mode, the block valves are open and the bleed valve is closed. In a third mode, all of the valves are open, thus ensuring that the module is completely purged. A stream-selection valve manifold is made by joining two or more valve modules side by side to form a common outlet and a common passageway, thus ensuring that the manifold is completely purged. The stream selector also provides a single block-and-bleed valve module having a disposal passageway which establishes fluid communication between a vent compartment and an external area suitable for the safe disposal of sample fluids and compressed gas contained in the valve module.
