Patent number: 4519576Abstract: A drill string safety valve operator provides a rotatable tubular body having a longitudinal through bore for conveying fluids. A valve member is movably disposed within the body for valving the fluid flow through the bore. A crank arm extends from and is coupled to the valve member at the valve stem for moving the valve member between open flow and closed flow positions responsive to rotation of the crank arm. A bearing is carried at the outboard end of the crank arm for transmitting load to the crank arm. An annular ring is supported about the tubular housing and provides a surface that can engage the bearing. Hydraulic cylinders power the annular ring so that the annular ring engages the bearing. Downward movement of the ring causes a corresponding downward movement of the bearing and a corresponding rotation of the crank arm. The apparatus thus allows quick remote closure of the valve during a blowout condition of the drill pipe bore.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1983Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Inventor: Mitchell E. Patent number: 4262878Abstract: A compact, hydraulically operated pressure valve for selective opening and closing of conduits or the like is provided which can withstand extremely high pressures in use, is easily repaired and/or replaced, and is low in cost. The valve includes a thin, circular metallic diaphragm which is mounted for bulging in response to pressure directed thereagainst, along with cavity structure adjacent to and in communication with one face of the diaphragm; in use when the diaphragm is located in closing relationship to a pressurized conduit, hydraulic fluid directed to the chamber establishes a desired pressure differential across the diaphragm such that the latter experiences only a desired pressure. The bulging of the diaphragm also causes the latter to sealingly engage a sharp marginal sealing edge associated with the valve, to further enhance the integrity of the closure effected thereby.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1979Date of Patent: April 21, 1981Assignee: Shale Oil Science & Systems, Inc.Inventor: Joseph M. Patent number: 4252197Abstract: In a well safety valve for controlling the fluid flow through a well conduit in which the valve has a housing and a tubular member controlling a valve element the improvement in means for opening and closing the valve. At least one piston is telescopically movable within and has its longitudinal axis within the wall of the housing and outside of the tubular member and engages the tubular member. The first side of the piston is in communication with a hydraulic passageway adapted to extend to the well surface for opening the valve. The second side of the piston extends into a closed gas chamber tending to move the valve to the closed position. The piston has a small cross-sectional area for reducing the pressure effect in the gas chamber of the gas caused by movement of the second side of the piston whereby the differential between the opening and closing forces are reduced thereby allowing the valve to be used at greater depths in the well.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1979Date of Patent: February 24, 1981Assignee: Camco, IncorporatedInventor: Ronald E. Patent number: 4211258Abstract: The disclosed system controls, through novel pressure and valving adjustment mechanisms, the application of dampening fluid to the ink roll or offset plate on the plate cylinder of an offset printing press. The dampening fluid passes through a pressure compensator which adjusts the fluid pressure in response to changes in the speed of the press. The fluid at the adjusted pressure is then directed to a spray bar, where it is discharged through a plurality of nozzles. The fluid is directed to the spray bar by a multiple valve, page control assembly. In the page control assembly fluid from a common manifold is discharged through a plurality of dual control valves to respective nozzles. Closure elements for the respective valves are operated by air pistons. A plurality of needle elements for the respective valves are axially adjusted by a common manual control so that adjusting the manual control adjusts the amount of fluid from one segment of the spray bar, preferably corresponding to a full page.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1978Date of Patent: July 8, 1980Assignee: Ryco Graphic Manufacturing, Inc.Inventor: Thomas G.
