  • Patent number: 4792113
Abstract: A flow limit valve for limiting the flow rate of a pressurized fluid includes a valve body with an interconnecting cavity of circular cross section. Within the cavity is a piston that slides within the cavity under force generated by a pressure differential across the piston to a closed position in engagement with a seat at the end of the cavity. A first encapsulated magnet is carried within the valve body in a chamber located on the side of the seat opposite the cavity. The first encapsulated magnet can be moved in response to another magnet outside the valve body to move a pin which can extend through the seat when the piston is in a closed position to thereby move the piston to an open position. The magnetic forces applied through the valve body affect internal valve operation via the pin and thus avoids the dange of noxious fluids escaping through sliding seals or flexible membranes.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an electric valve device used in subsea applications. It comprises a valve body with a centrally placed slidable valve core. The core has an aperture for fluid passage and may be held in position by 2 permanent magnets in the valve body. Windings are placed in the valve body so that they encircle the slidable core. To move the core, a DC current source is attached to the windings so that when they are energized a force is generated to move the core in a specific direction. The core is then held in this position by the contact between the magnets in the valve body and the valve core until the polarity of the windings is switched and the valve is moved in the opposite direction.

  • Patent number: 4671486
Abstract: A valve actuator which allows complete isolation, controlled torque actuation, and tamperproof operation of valve by incorporating a magnetic coupling. An actuator cap is shaped to fit over a sealed valve stem. Permanent magnets are attached to the valve stem and actuator cap. The magnets provide a magnetic coupling between the actuator and valve stem and across a static non-magnetic bulkhead. The actuator cap is not physically attached to the valve and can be manually decoupled. The magnetic coupling and decoupling eliminates the need for a dynamic valve stem seal and the corresponding high sealing loads. Decoupling prevents accidental or unauthorized actuation. Safety is also enhanced by elimination of the dynamic seal. New magnetic materials can now provide high torque operation if needed for high pressure applications.

  • Patent number: 4635849
Abstract: A piezoelectric fuel injector for use in fuel injection systems of spark-ignition engines is provided with a normally closed valve assembly in the form of a reed valve. The valve assembly includes a valve plate having one or more outlet ports having an overall cross-sectional flow area sufficient to ensure an unobstructed flow path therethrough. The valve assembly also includes a generally flat, thin, resilient closure member cooperating with the valve set of the valve plate. The pressure wave created in the fuel in the pumping chamber upon excitation of the piezoelectric actuator propagates into the outlet ports to directly reach the thin closure member, which readily resiliently yields to permit a desired amount of fuel to be injected into the engine cylinders. The fuel injector is particularly suitable to be operated by a high-frequency drive signal in order to ensure precise metering of fuel quantity over a wide range of engine operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4630644
Abstract: An improved, remote controlled valve and dual push button assembly, having a hand operated push button which, when depressed and released, opens a water valve for a predetermined length of time after which the valve closes. The valve is also connected to a foot operated push button which, when depressed, holds the valve in an open configuration as long as the foot button is depressed. The improved valve and button assembly provides an air flow path through the foot button when the foot button is not depressed. The air flow path utilizes a hole in a diaphragm of the foot button which communicates with an air flow path in the base of the piston which depresses the foot button diaphragm. The disclosure also includes a check valve held in the needle valve which is a part of the timing mechanism of the hand operated button. The check valve prevents the flow of air out through the needle valve and permits air to only flow in through the needle valve.

  • Patent number: 4624443
Abstract: A flow limit valve for limiting the flow rate of a pressurized fluid includes a valve body with an interconnecting cavity of circular cross section. Within the cavity if a piston that slides within the cavity under force generated by a pressure differential across the piston to a closed position which prevents fluid flow through the valve. A pin is provided that is attached to the piston and that protrudes through the piston seat into the outlet side of the cavity when the piston is at the closed position. Opposite the pin is an encapsulated magnet within the valve body that can be moved in response to another magnet outside the valve body to contact the pin attached to the piston to move it to the open position. The magnetic forces applied through the valve body affect internal valve operation via the pin attached to the piston and this avoids the danger of noxious fluids escaping through sliding seals or flexible membranes.

  • Patent number: 4621660
Abstract: In a valve of this nature, the armature is held in its momentary switching position by the force of permanent magnets. To change the switching position of the armature, electrical pulses are fed to the electromagnetic system of the valve to cause a variation of the magnetic flux in the area of the yoke and thus a reversal of the position of the armature. The whole magnetic system of the valve is incorporated in one housing. To obtain a magnetic valve for control of fluids which has its structural volume reduced considerably, at least the said housing of the valve is provided with fluid ducting passages, the central space of the magnetic system receiving the pivotably formed armature being divided into two mutually and hermetically separated chambers through which is ducted the fluid which is to be controlled, the two extremities of the armature acting as closing members which close or open corresponding inflow or outflow passages of the said chambers as a function of armature position.
