Weight Biased Trip Patents (Class 251/72)
  • Patent number: 8979063
Abstract: Failsafe apparatus for use with linear actuators are disclosed. A failsafe apparatus for use with a linear actuator includes a spring to urge a first stem of a device to be operated by the linear actuator toward a failsafe position and a clutch to operatively couple a second stem of the linear actuator to the first stem. The clutch includes a frame coupled to one of the first stem or the second stem and jaws moveably coupled to the frame. The jaws are to engage the other one of the first stem or the second stem to enable the linear actuator to operate the device and to disengage the other one of the first stem or the second stem to enable the spring to move the first stem toward the failsafe position.

  • Patent number: 6470905
Abstract: The present invention relates to the multifunctional urgent shutoff safety valve for preventing accidents such as gas explosion, fire, etc. in advance. It is installed at the gas supply path. The spool assembly run by earthquake accelerations in case of an earthquake of stronger than a fixed level shuts off the gas circulation path to stop gas supply, or the spool assembly shuts off the gas circulation path to stop gas supply when an excessive amount of gas is flowed out in a short time due to blowing-out of the rear end pipe of the present valve. In the configuration of the multifunctional urgent shutoff safety valve of the present invention, a permanent magnet, which is mounted on the upper end of the spool assembly installed at the valve room in the main body in the vertical state to pen and close the outlet port, is suspended apart from the bottom surface of the pendulum (acceleration sensor) at a fixed interval, when the valve outlet port is open.

  • Patent number: 6363962
Abstract: A crash valve is located in a liquid tight dispenser pan at a gasoline service station to close a conduit conveying gasoline to a gasoline dispensing unit to prevent uncontrolled flow of gasoline in the event a vehicle crashes into the dispensing unit. The dispenser pan collects any leaking gasoline or inflow of water; the presence of gasoline is an obvious safety hazard and the accumulating water may cause electrical or mechanical malfunction of the crash valve. An actuator, responsive to the presence of either water or gasoline in the dispenser pan, includes a weighted ball secured to a trip arm of the crash valve by a lanyard. The actuator will respond to the presence of gasoline or water by dislodging the ball and cause the ball to drop. The weight of the falling ball, translated through the lanyard, will cause the trip arm to close the crash valve and prevent further flow of gasoline therethrough and preclude the dispensing unit from pumping gasoline until the trip arm is reset.

  • Patent number: 6276388
Abstract: A movement detector and fluid shut-off device, including a housing having an ingress and egress for fluid flow. The device including a valve shut-off means for selectively blocking fluid flow. The valve shut-off means includes a plunger normally urged towards the egress. The plunger has a front end which is capable of sealing the egress. The device also includes a detector means for detecting movement. The detector means includes a free weight hung on internal structure of the housing defining support structure. The detector means further includes release means which holds the plunger in a first position away from the egress allowing fluid flow and releases the plunger to its second, activated, position upon sufficient oscillation of the free weight.

  • Patent number: 5449015
Abstract: A shock-activated shut-off valve including a housing having an upper chamber and a lower chamber separated by a flap-gate pivotally connected to the housing, the lower chamber comprising an inlet orifice, and outlet orifice and a flap-gate stop means; a weight; a shock-actuated retainer defining a weight-passable opening and a latching means comprising a receptacle arm pivotally connected to a counter-weight and a flap-gate actuator, wherein, in one position, the counter-weight maintains the receptacle arm and the flap-gate in a horizontal position and the weight rests on the retainer and wherein, in another position, upon shock-actuation, the weight disassociates from the retainer and, subject to vertical acceleration, engages the receptacle arm, exerting a force which exacts pivotal movement of the counterweight to allow release of the flap-gate from a horizontal position to a position engaging the flap-dash gate stop means, thereby closing the inlet orifice from the outlet orifice.

  • Patent number: 4469125
Abstract: A quick release valve including a housing, a high pressure fluid inlet in the housing, a fluid outlet in the housing, a first plunger having a valve member at a first end thereof, a second annular plunger axially aligned with the first plunger and having a seat on the end thereof for receiving the valve member, a toggle linkage mounted between the housing and the second end of the first plunger for maintaining the valve member on the seat when the toggle linkage is overcenter but permitting the valve member to pull away from the seat when the toggle linkage is broken, and a lever with a weight thereon attached to the toggle linkage for biasing the toggle linkage to a broken condition but which is ineffective for doing so when the toggle linkage is in an overcenter position as a result of fluid pressure being exerted on the valve member.
