In one embodiment, the actuator can be threaded into at least a portion of the structure, and can be moved rotationally between a first position, causing relatively greater constriction of a microfluidic fluid path, and a second position causing relatively lesser constriction of the fluid path. Actuating the actuator, e.g., by rotation, can deform material between the valve and the fluid path, thereby constricting at least a portion of the underlying fluid path and regulating the flow of a fluid in the fluid path. In another aspect, the invention provides a reservoir into which fluid can be placed and from which fluid can be introduced into a microfluidic system. Abstract: A catheter movement control device is presented having therein a resilient biasing member and a tube gripper which mount on a catheter tube. The biasing member and tube gripper are contained within a housing having a shoulder proximate the catheter tube. As the catheter tube is free to move in a forward direction through the housing, upon attempted rearward movement the biasing member engages the tube gripper causing it to pivot against a shoulder within the housing. Upon pivoting the tube gripper tightly engages the catheter tube preventing any further rearward movement of the catheter tube.

Abstract: A plant feeder includes a reservoir container, a stand supporting the container, a fluid feed line, and a flow control valve. The reservoir container provides a source of fluid nourishment for feeding plants, and includes an outlet for dispensing the fluid nourishment, and an inlet which provides aeration. The stand supports the reservoir container through a releasable securing mechanism, such as a lattice harness. The stand includes mutually adjustable vertical supports, a stand foot, and a reservoir support. The feed line is attached on one end to the outlet of the reservoir container. The flow control valve is disposed in the feed line to provide controlled meter dosing of fluid nourishment from the container, and may be adjustably attached through a casing and lateral supports to the stand. A control valve with a flexible valve line and an impinging annular ring adjusted through a radial pin structure is described.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for dividing a mass of dough into a plurality of smaller volumes for buns and the like of uniform weight which includes a manifold having internal dividers and monolithic conduits for dividing the dough into a plurality of streams. The manifold has a large volume to surface area and divides the dough under relatively low pressure of preferably 40 to 45 pounds per square inch gauge pressure. The apparatus also utilizes restrictors to fine tune the flow rates of the separate streams. The restrictors are flexible tube conduits that pass through a valve assembly having adjustable pressure bars that pinch the flexible tubes to vary their opening.

  • Patent number: 5316262
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus for restricting the flow of fluid. The apparatus defines a tubular member having a channel. The tubular member has a first portion in which the channel has a first cross sectional area. There is also a second portion for restricting the flow of fluid defined by a reproducible deformity in the channel such that the channel has a second cross sectional area which is smaller than the first cross sectional area of the first portion. The tubular member further defines a third portion having a third cross sectional area which is greater than the second cross sectional area of the second portion. All of the cross sectional dimensions of the second and third portions are disposed within a cylindrical envelope having a diameter equal to the diameter of the first portion and extending therefrom. The tubular member is comprised of a material having sufficient rigidity to maintain a preferred reproducible permanent deformity in the channel.

Abstract: An improved glow-plug engine for use with a model airplane of the type that includes an output shaft for driving a propeller, a needle valve for controlling a flow of fuel into a carburetor, and a fuel line formed from resilient silicone rubber is provided, wherein the improvement comprises a pinch valve for controlling the flow of fuel through the fuel line which is located farther away from the propeller than the needle valve so that the fuel flow may be adjusted by the fingers of the engine's operator more safely. The pinch valve includes a valve body for securing a section of the resilient fuel line, and a pinching mechanism including a control member that is accurately extendible toward and retractable from a secured section of the fuel line to constrict or expand the fuel flow path defined by the secured section of the fuel line. In one embodiment, control member is a cam mounted on a lever which in turn is linked to a servo-mechanism.

The valve includes a slotted saddle with female threading to receive a male threaded stem which is actuated within the saddle by a knob integrally connected to the stem. The slotted saddle may be installed onto an existing tube run without requiring disconnection. The stem has a spherical tip which contacts the tube to collapse to decrease the area flow therethrough. The knob and saddle are closely fitted to prevent spreading of the saddle during high thread loads. Calibration is also provided so that a desired flow control can be repeated with accuracy.

Abstract: A fire hose clamp that comprises a U-shaped guide structure for slidably supporting a movable jaw; a manual rotary screw extends from the movable jaw through a nut in the central wall of the U-shaped structure, whereby rotation of the screw moves the jaw along the guide structure. A stationary jaw is arranged in the path of the movable jaw, such that the two jaws exert a squeezing action on a fire hose extending through the jaw space; the hose fabric is flattened to shut off the flow of water through the hose. Preferably the jaws have curved surfaces that tend to iron away any creases or bulges in the hose fabric during the hose-squeezing operation, thereby assuring a more consistent water shut-off action.
