Patent number: 4273308Abstract: A concentric rotary valve having a rotatable stem of a valve disc supported by bearing portions and metal seats mounted in a valve housing to contact metal seats on the valve disc. Clearances in directions parallel to a closed disc surface and radial of the valve stem are barely enough to permit a shift of the valve disc to provide a good seat-to-seat contact when the valve is closed, and clearances in directions normal to the closed disc surface and radial of the rotatable stem are barely enough to permit normal rotations of the stem.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1979Date of Patent: June 16, 1981Assignee: Kubota, Ltd.Inventor: Osamu Nakai

Patent number: 4270729Abstract: A top operated tank car valve assembly includes a rod extending downwardly from the top of the tank and is attached to the valve stem of a lading valve located in the bottom of the tank. The stem engages a threaded valve sleeve provided with a mounting flange which engages a cooperating mounting flange on a valve cage. Fasteners engage the upper surface of the sleeve, and extend through the valve cage and engage threaded openings in a tank car bottom outlet mounting flange. The cage includes a valve seat for a valve closure. The valve seat is formed on the lower, internal surface of the valve cage, and circumferentially spaced openings are formed in the valve cage for lading flow. Laterally spaced projections extend upwardly from the lading valve closure. A valve stem retainer includes a pair of formed retainer members which define a cavity or opening.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1978Date of Patent: June 2, 1981Assignee: ACF Industries, IncorporatedInventors: Gunter R. Behle, David P. Hillstead

Patent number: 4260129Abstract: A rotary spherical plug valve having an annular valve seat, a closure member formed as a portion of sphere, support arms for supporting the closure member with one of the arms being connected to a driving shaft at a hub having a hole for admitting the shaft with a slightly larger diameter than the shaft and a force transmitting means in the form of a cylindrical connection member disposed between a semi-cylindrical groove in the shaft and a semi-cylindrical internal recess in the wall surrounding the hole in the hub.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1979Date of Patent: April 7, 1981Assignee: Honeywell Inc.Inventor: Heinz Groenefeld

Patent number: 4249563Abstract: A manifold mounting pairs of relief valves in side-by-side clusters having a slide-rod interlock cooperating with swing-mounted clapper discs and operationally engaging handles connected thereto for selectively isolating one valve at a time from pressure in the manifold in preparation for its removal and replacement under pressure therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1979Date of Patent: February 10, 1981Assignee: The Protectoseal CompanyInventor: Harry N. Patent number: 4174825Abstract: A high pressure environmental ball valve wherein the ball valve member is tiltable into engagement under the influence of pressure into tight sealing relationship with a sealing ring at the valve outlet. The spindle is connected to the ball by a loose fitting wedge member and cooperating V-groove. When operation of the ball is desired, the spindle is moved linearly before rotation in order to bring the wedge on the end of the spindle into tight engagement with the V-groove, low-torque rotation being possible.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1977Date of Patent: November 20, 1979Inventor: Juha A. E. Nelimarkka

Patent number: 4174090Abstract: A high pressure ball valve, the ball valve being tiltable under pressure into tight sealing engagement with a sealing ring at the outlet of the valve body. A joint is formed between the spindle and the ball to allow the tilting action of the ball, while still providing low-torque turning of the spindle. A parallelepiped-shaped joint portion is formed on the bottom of the spindle and is loosely received between two bearing blocks on the ball valve so that small amount of loss motion is provided between the spindle and ball valve.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1977Date of Patent: November 13, 1979Inventor: Juha A. E. Nelimarkka

Patent number: 4167195Abstract: A straight compression valve is disclosed in which shutoff of flow of fluid is effected between surfaces of plastic material, but in which a washer of non-metallic material may be employed under certain conditions. When the washer is not used, the design of the sealing surfaces is such as to obtain a highly effective shutoff with a minimum of closing pressure, while avoiding breakage of parts of the valve adjacent the sealing surfaces. Means are provided for controlling the movement of the valve stem to prevent breakage of the valve bonnet and other parts during closing of the valve. The valve body is provided with flats or flat surfaces which are so disposed or positioned in relation to the valve as a whole as to enable the valve to be clamped in a vise for facilitating access to the stem and other parts of the valve. The use of packing glands is avoided through the use of an O-ring and its structural location in the valve.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1977Date of Patent: September 11, 1979Assignee: U-Brand CorporationInventor: Don R. Patent number: 4114850Abstract: A modulating plug valve is disclosed having a valve seat for providing communication between the inlet and outlet openings of the valve, a stem extending through the valve housing, a disc mounted on the valve stem for allowing angular movement of the disc with respect to the stem for seating against the valve seat to cut off communication between the inlet and outlet openings and a plug mounted on the valve stem for lateral and angular motion with respect to the stem for modulating the fluid flow between the inlet and outlet openings when the disc is not seated against the valve seat.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1976Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Honeywell Inc.Inventor: Leo Alamprese

Patent number: 4114851Abstract: A high pressure valve of the type employing a non-rotating valve needle having a tapered tip which may be selectively moved between seated and unseated positions relative to a valve seat in a valve chamber. The valve seat is tapered inwardly and has a smaller taper angle than the valve needle. A valve actuating stem is received through a valve packing nut with the actuating stem having a bifurcated inner end defined by a transverse, generally rectangular bore intersected by an axially directed slot. The slot is somewhat smaller in breadth than the width of the bore and extends between the bore and the innermost end of the stem. The valve needle includes an enlarged cylindrical or spherical connecting end adapted to be received in the actuating stem bore and slot. Sealing for the needle is provided by a sealing medium comprised of a combination of a seal member received between a pair of seal washers in an enlarged coaxial area at one end of the valve chamber.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1976Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Sno-Trik CompanyInventors: Robert A. Shivak, David J. Johnston

Patent number: 4037584Abstract: A stove damper is adjustably supported on a stationary shaft secured to a stove door or wall. Front and rear recesses in the damper are defined by annular walls radially spaced from the damper supporting shaft. Intermediate the front and rear recesses is a shaft engaging member which retards heat transfer, enabling comfortable grasping of the damper regardless of high stove temperatures.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1976Date of Patent: July 26, 1977Inventor: Baxter Fisher
