  • Patent number: 8740180
Abstract: A conventional rotary valve in which is provided with a locking mechanism for fixing the degree of aperture so as to prevent misoperation and reduce accidents caused thereby, and even a previously installed valve can be converted to a valve having a locking mechanism, simply by replacing the handle alone. In a rotary valve wherein a valve element that is engaged with a stem is turned by turning the stem, which is connected to a handle, so as to open and close the valve, and having a top flange that is provided on a neck of a valve body that supports the stem, a notch is formed at the peripheral edge of the top flange, and a locking member, having a protrusion that can be latched in the notch in the top flange by way of a torsion spring, is pivotably supported at the center of the handle or on a grip portion thereof.

  • Patent number: 8360391
Abstract: A device includes a stem hub attached to a fitting body. A rotatable stem is located at least partially within the stem hub. Rotation of the rotatable stem operates a blocking element located in the fitting body. In an embodiment, an upper stem is coupled to a first end portion of the rotatable stem so that rotation of the upper stem rotates the rotatable stem. A metal seal is located on the stem hub. A portion of the upper stem presses the metal seal between the upper stem and the stem hub when the upper stem is moved towards the stem hub. An operating mechanism moves the upper stem towards the stem hub and away from the stem hub. The upper stem is moved by the operating mechanism in a direction normal to the rotational axis of the rotatable stem and the upper stem.

Abstract: A valve having an improved multiple position notch plate providing a large number of selectable valve positions with enhanced strength, including in the travel stop limiting the range of movement of the valve handle connected to the valve member. The notch plate includes a plurality of intermediate notches extending only partially through a radial outer periphery thereof, at spaced locations along an arcuate path of movement of a detent element in connection with the valve handle. In one embodiment, the intermediate notches are disposed in radial outer tips of fingers defining a plurality of through notches extending completely through the notch plate, also for receiving the detent element for holding the handle. As a result a greater number of valve positions can be achieved, with robustness and strength to withstand hammer blows, kicking and the like.

  • Patent number: 4878515
Abstract: A water access preventer for testable water backflow prevention assemblies wherein a means is provided to quickly, inconspicuously, and inexpensively prevent unauthorized access to potable water travelling within these assemblies throughout the differential pressure gradient of these assemblies, comprising, in part: a means for locking the valves which provide access to the potable water, and a means for preventing the shut-off of linepressure throughout the differential pressure gradient of the device.

  • Patent number: 4714233
Abstract: An adapter bracket that can be attached to the exterior of a conventional gate valve and valve actuator converting the valve to a fire safety valve. The bracket can be clamped to the exterior of the valve/actuator housing without modification to the existing structure. The bracket includes an adapter plate with an externally threaded cylindrical extension. A hole through the adapter plate is coaxial with the aperture through the cylindrical extension to non-engagingly permit the valve actuator rod to pass therethrough. The threaded extension receives a standard lock-open cap to hold the valve in the open position to avoid severing of the cable in wireline operations due to a power outage, for example. The cap includes a portion made of fusible material which, in the event of fire, will melt permitting the valve to close under operation of a biasing spring.

  • Patent number: 4651789
Abstract: A water dispenser having an actuator that is displaced in order to dispense water from an overhead spout and an interlock member that prevents the actuator from being displaced an amount sufficient to dispense water unless a drinking glass is used to move the actuator. The interlock member surrounds the actuator and is slidably movable along the actuator from a first rest position, to a second disengaged position by the lip of a glass pressed against the actuator. In the first position, the interlock member will strike a stationary abutment to prevent the actuator from being displaced. In the disengaged position, the interlock member will not strike the abutment and the actuator can be displaced to dispense water.

  • Patent number: 4577831
Abstract: A calibrated handknob assembly for use with a valve having a control stem, said assembly having a rising stem with spaced circumferential calibrations, a handknob having circumferentially spaced radial calibrations, a lock ring having an index cooperating with said handknob calibrations and having positions for permitting setting of the handknob "zero" position and index position at a desired circumferential location, for placing the assembly in a condition where the handknob cannot be rotated and for permitting rotation of the handknob to change the valve opening. An O-ring is used to detent the lock ring so that inadvertent rotation of the handknob will not occur and to prevent movement of the lock ring to the position where the handknob can be removed and "0" calibration reset. The O-ring may be easily removed to permit the resetting when needed.

  • Patent number: 4530485
Abstract: A valve having a tubular body with a valve seat and valve member controlled by a valve operator with provisions for latching the valve operator with the valve member in partially open position utilizing a snap ring which is propped out into a groove in the body and provides a stop maintaining the valve partially open against a spring and in which the valve operator has a receiving groove which receives the snap ring and maintains it in an out-of-the-way position upon movement of the valve operator toward full valve-open position.

  • Patent number: 4436116
Abstract: A four-way valve for use in a railroad air brake system has a housing with an internal chamber and a plurality of ports in communication with the chamber. Two of the ports are adapted for connection to a railroad car brake pipe with an intermediate port being adapted for connection to the railroad car air brake system. A valve member is movable within the chamber between a plurality of positions, there being a position to close each port and a neutral position in which all ports are in communication with the chamber. The improvement is specifically directed to a seal member carried by the valve member and spring means which urge the seal member outwardly of the valve member and toward the described ports. Each port has seal means which include a floating seal ring within each port, with each floating seal ring being positioned for sealing contact with the valve member seal member.

  • Patent number: 4361310
Abstract: A drain valve assembly for attachment to the threaded drain opening of an automobile crankcase is disclosed. A drain plug, which is engageable with the threaded drain opening of the automobile crankcase, is provided with an axially extending bore which defines a drain passage in communication with the crankcase. A counterbore formed in the tightening head of the drain plug defines a valve seat. An anchor plate is fastened to the underside of the crankcase by the drain plug. A valve release plate is moveably coupled to the anchor plate for movement from a valve closed position to a valve open position. A resilient, compressible valve head is mounted on the valve release plate for movement into and out of sealing engagement with the valve seat in the valve closed and valve open positions, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4081172
Abstract: A fluid valve having a housing with an inlet and outlet. A valve closure is carried between the inlet and outlet by a stem journaled within the housing. A handle which is rotative relative to the stem and which is utilized to rotate the valve closure is provided. A lock member is carried by the valve housing and is contacted by the handle which, upon rotation, causes the lock member to rotate with the handle relative to the valve housing. A connector extends between the valve stem and the lock member so that, upon movement of the lock member, the connector causes the valve stem to rotate, thus rotating the valve closure within the valve housing.
