Abstract: A composition and method for producing a fiberboard. The fiberboard is produced from a mixture of wood-containing material, a binder, a waterproofing agent and a liquid concentrate. The liquid concentrate contains boric acid or a derivative thereof, a water soluble compound which includes an alcohol and a water soluble amine-containing compound, and optionally water. The mixture is intermixed and subsequently pressed at a predetermined compacting pressure and a predetermined temperature.

Abstract: A method of making a borate treated wood particle board by applying an adhesive resin and a particulate borate treating agent (anhydrous borax or zinc borate) in a dry form to the wood particles to produce treated wood particles (wafers). The treated wood particles are formed into a mat and consolidated under heat and pressure to distribute the resin in the wood before the viscosity of the resin is effected by contact with a sufficient amount of borate to significantly impair penetration of the resin into the wood.
Abstract: Granular flame retardant agents are disclosed which incorporate halogenated organic flame-retardant compounds, without any binders. The granular agents may further contain desired additives and organic or inorganic flame-retardant synergistic materials. The granular agents are dust-free and are usefully employed in a method for imparting flame-retardant properties to flammable plastic materials. A process for the preparation of the granular flame retardant agents of the invention by cold compaction is also described.

Abstract: A floor structure comprising an upper layer containing a hydroxide, a middle layer for providing the structural strength and a lower layer covering the lower surface of the structure, in which at least the middle layer and the lower layer are composed of flame-retardant material and a layer of heat insulating material is formed therebetween. The floor structure is excellent in fire-resistance and heat-resistance, as well as facilitating the mounting of equipment or the likes below the floor.
Abstract: A resole resin in the form of microspherical particles whose surfaces are partly or entirely covered with a coating of a substantially water-insoluble inorganic salt and which are not larger than 500 .mu.m in size, and a process for producing such resole resin. The resole resin comprises solid particles that are highly heat reactive and can be stored in a stable manner for a prolonged period. The resin particles can be used with good results in all fields of applications (e.g., moldings, laminations and binders) where conventional phenolic resins are used.
Abstract: A composition for imparting fire-resistance to laminating interlayers comprising (a) a plasticizer blend of a char-forming component, such as an organic phosphate, and an oxygen sequestering agent, such as an organic phosphite, wherein the char-forming component is the major constituent; (b) a nucleating agent such as fumed silica, for dispersing fire decomposition products of the interlayer; and (c) a heat reactive bonding resin.
Abstract: A process for the production of microcapsules by interfacial polyreaction, which comprises mixing a first reactant with an emulsion of a solution of a material to be encapsulated and a second reactant whereby the first and second reactants react to form a capsule containing the said material and wherein the second reactant dissolved in the disperse phase is a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound corresponding to one of the formulae I, II or III ##STR1## wherein at least two of the radicals A, B, D and E are halogen atoms, ammonium, hydrazinium, sulfonium, optionally substituted alkyl sulfonyl, aryl sulfonyl, aralkyl sulfonium, azido, aryloxy, thiocyano arylthio and sulfonic acid residues which are reactive under the conditions of the capsule-forming reaction and the remaining radicals A, B, D, E are hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, phenoxy, alkylamino or phenylamino radicals which are not reactive under the conditions of the capsule-forming reaction.

Abstract: A flameproofing additive for thermoplastic synthetic resin compositions comprises 60-30 wt. % of a lower melting, flame retardant organic bromine compound which melts at 80.degree.-200.degree. C. and 40-70 wt. % of a higher melting, flame retardant organic bromine compound which melts at 280.degree.-400.degree. C., each of the flame retardant, organic bromine compounds being thermally stable at the processing temperatures to which the thermoplastic synthetic resin is to be exposed after being combined with the flameproofing additive.
Abstract: A method for producing a fibrous fire protection agent composed of a fibrous material with boric acid particles adhering to its surface, by providing a mass of such fibrous material having a moisture content of up to 80 percent by weight, intimately mixing in a mixer that mass of material with a quantity of powdered boron mineral material, spraying a quantity of concentrated sulfuric acid into the mixer during the mixing step to form a granulate, feeding the resulting granulate onto an evaporation line, and withdrawing the granulate from the evaporation line and comminuting the granulate in an impact pulverizer to form it into the fibrous fire protection agent.
