Patent number: 6242404Abstract: An improved soil release polymer composition comprising a soil release polymer and a long chain nonionic alkoxylate surfactant and/or amphoteric that is able to generate very low critical micelle concentration values in water. Preferably, the soil release composition is incorporated in a detergent system such as a commercial laundry detergent which comprises a second anionic, nonionic or cationic surfactant and mixtures thereof. By lowering the cmc values of the detergent wash water to very low levels, the surfactant greatly enhances the performance of the soil release polymer.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1997Date of Patent: June 5, 2001Assignee: Rhodia Inc.Inventors: Manilal S. Patent number: 6224782Abstract: The present invention provides a method for preparing a fluorochemical composition comprising polyurethane by reacting: (A) fluorochemical oligomer of formula (I): MfmMn—Q1—T1 wherein: MfmMn represents flurochemical oligomer comprising m units derived from fluorinated monomer and n units derived from fluorine-free monomer and wherein the fluorinated monomers and fluorine-free monomers may be the same or different; m represents a value of 2 to 40; n represents a value of 0 to 20; T1 is —OH or —NH2; Q1 and T1 together represent an organic residue obtained by removing a hydrogen atom from a chain transfer agent that is functionalized with T1; and (B) difunctional compound capable of reacting with an isocyanate and comprising a poly(oxyalkylene) group having 18 to 280 oxyalkylene moieties with (C) diisocyanate or triisocyanate.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1999Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Kathy E. Patent number: 6211299Abstract: In situ solvent free methods for making anhydride based graft copolymers which involve mixing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, an anhydride monomer, either a monofunctional polyglycol having a hydroxyl or amine terminal group or a polyfunctional polyglycol having a weight average molecular weight of greater than 5,000 and at least one terminal hydroxyl group, and a free radical initiator to form a mixture. The mixture is heated to form a copolymer having repeat units derived from the ethylenically unsaturated monomer and anhydride monomer, and a copolymer grafted polyglycol comprising a main polyglycol backbone having copolymer side chains which are heated to form an anhydride based graft copolymer. The anhydride based graft copolymers are especially useful as soil release agents in detergent formulations.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1999Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Assignee: National Starch and Chemical Investment Holding CorporationInventors: Thomas H.
