Abstract: An automated wrist restraint system providing a safe and simple device to immobilize a suspect. A conformal flexible band is employed in a loop configuration, to allow, in the open position, the entry of the largest sized hand encountered in the field. In the closed position the band conforms to the geometry of the wrist to minimize contact forces and prevent wrist injury. Additionally, a microprocessor, controlled servomechanism opens, closes and slackens the band to further prevent wrist injury. A simply activated, holster worn, radio transmitter allows the operator to remotely activate the system, while maintaining a safe distance from the suspect. Among the many possibilities contemplated, the system may be fitted to a law enforcement vehicle, or a robot.
Abstract: A system for raising and lowering equipment and including a fixed support arm for attachment to an elevated support structure, a movable carriage for carrying the equipment, a cable extending between the fixed support arm and the movable carriage, and a winch for spooling and unspooling the cable to raise and lower the movable carriage relative to the fixed support arm. A locking mechanism secures the carriage in its raised position, and alignment guides position the carriage to make electrical connections as the carriage is engaged onto the support arm.

Abstract: A portable winch suitable for use in underground pipe bursting and replacement includes a mounting frame positionable at a top opening of a hole such as a receiving pit or manhole. A telescoping mast having a series of nested, top and bottom mast sections is mounted on the frame. A powered winch unit, also mounted on the frame, includes a drive unit and a cable. A guide assembly includes a sheave that guides the cable from the drive unit to the bottom mast section. Suitable means are connected to the frame for mechanically raising and lowering the mast into and out of the hole. As such, the mast according to the invention does not require assembly or disassembly at the beginning and end of each job. The mechanical means for raising and lowering the mast is preferably the powered winch unit.
Abstract: For use in service and maintenance of oil and gas (or water) wells, a system for operating a truck mounted direct drive dual drum winch. Each drum is independently driven by a direct coupled radial piston hydraulic motor. The system includes an improved source of hydraulic power connected to the drum motors through improved piping and valving for selection of drum functions (raise or hoist, lower or drop, or free fall). The system also includes an improved control panel, movable and positionable by the operator for precise and safe control of selected drum functions using pneumatic power.

Abstract: A dual winch for mounting on a tractor comprises a pair of winch drums separately connected via a clutch to a common drive shaft. Each winch drum typically incorporates a planetary gear unit. The cables on the winches are connected to a roller preferably provided with double chevron blades.
