Shiftable Into And Out Of Intermeshing Engagement Patents (Class 254/298)
  • Patent number: 7273207
Abstract: A winch includes a first cable reel and a second cable reel. A driveshaft rotates the first cable reel and the second cable reel. The driveshaft is moveable along an axis of rotation between a first position and a second position. The driveshaft operationally engages the first cable reel when in the first position and operationally engages the second cable reel when in the second position.

  • Patent number: 5607142
Abstract: A lifting apparatus (1) comprises a frame (30) and a carrier device (12) for carrying a load (2). The lifting apparatus includes two separate suspension devices (11a, b) which, by respective lines (13a, b) are connected to respective rotary drums (14a, b) for winding or unwinding of the line. A switching device (15a, b) is provided for each respective drum and is disposed, in a first position, to interconnect the drum with a prime mover (16) for rotation of the drum (14a, b) in one direction of rotation in which the line (13a, b) is wound up onto or unwound from the drum. As a rule, the second drum is disengaged from the prime mover (16) when this drives that drum on which the line is wound up or from which the line is unwound.

  • Patent number: 5143479
Abstract: A boom includes a plurality of boom sections joined end to end. Each boom section includes two or more parallel inflatable chambers which are joined with a weighted curtain which is reinforced for strength. Boom sections are stored compactly on respective reels. A substantial number of reels are arranged compactly in the hold of a carrier vessel which is smaller in size and has greater speed and maneuverability than vessels carrying known oil spill containment systems. Boom sections are consecutively unwound from their respective reels and connected end-to-end as they are deployed to form a continuous boom. The boom sections unwind naturally from the reels as the carrier vessel moves through the water away from a tender vessel holding the first end of the boom. The boom's deployment is controlled by a brake on an idler roller and a hydraulic crane's drive wheel on the reel, thus limiting manual handling to lighter-weight tasks.

  • Patent number: 4257578
Abstract: An oil well service rig having three reels, two of the reels actuated by a hydraulic pump through a gear box which provides for selective engagement or disengagement and a two speed gear ratio change for either reel, the hydraulic pump being driven by a gasoline engine. An independent hydraulically operated brake system is utilized on the reels wherein one side of each reel is provided with a greater diameter than the other side, the larger side having a brake caliper pad assembly in engagement therewith. A smaller reel, also controlled by the hydraulic motor, controls the inclination and disposition of a mast having a double sheave assembly at its top receiving cables from each main reel for raising and lowering tools into the oil well shaft.
