Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved level wind arm for a winch drum assembly, and a winch drum assembly incorporating such a level wind arm. The level wind arm includes a cross member adapted to bias against an outwardly extending portion of rope, the cross member being concave so that more force is required for the rope spindle associated with the cross member to “climb” the slope of the cross member, causing a momentary pause in motion of the spindle after it reaches the end of wind stroke. This momentary pause allows for rope being wound onto the drum to rise up the end wall of the drum to create a new layer which is aligned and consistent with the layer below, without causing gaps in the rope or other circumstances which could lead to the rope accumulating at any one point, or becoming tangled. The present invention also includes means of ensuring that tension is maintained in the rope, and that the rope does not jump off the reel and, for example, into the clutch mechanism.

The handle is mounted to the support frame at a location on the support frame which is coincidental with the vertical axis. Wobbling and twisting motions in the winch body are thereby readily perceived with a true amplitude. A corrective action can then be applied to the winch body without using an excessive or a shy force. Abstract: The invention relates to a hoisting device for use at a wind turbine, in particular for use in a wind turbine nacelle, which hoisting device includes a reel, a drive motor, control mean and a hoisting line. The hoisting line is a rope, which is composed of synthetic fibre material, e.g. a high-tech rope. Hereby it is achieved that the hoisting device can be provided in a compact form, compared with traditionally used hoisting means, since the synthetic rope used as a hoisting line is characterized in having a high tensile strength and a low weight, whereby a rope having a comparable low weight can be used for lifting the same load, for which traditionally a steel wire having a relatively large weight has been used. Further, since the weight of the rope itself is relatively small, a drive motor, gear etc. having reduced capacity, power etc., can be used as compared to a traditional hoist, thereby also aiding in reducing the size, weight, complexity, cost etc. of the hoisting device.

The body is formed in two parts with one siding inside the other and of the same curvature. Each part has a straight end portion where it attaches to the base and the cable guide respectively. A winch mounting for a winch for the cable is attached to the lower portion at its upper end. The front legs are also formed similarly as two inter-fitting curved parts.

  • Patent number: 6443431
Abstract: A cable winding system has a powered spool for receiving the cable in continuous evenly distributed coils. A levelwind mechanism is attached to the spool and guides the cable onto the spool by a pawl traversing a powered diamond screw groove. The levelwind is attached to a load compensated hydraulic system which prevents stresses from being transmitted to the pawl. The levelwind has a sheave to accept cable angularly disposed to the axis of the spool.

Abstract: A winch arrangement fitted to a vehicle chassis (1) comprises a winch (2) mounted at an intermediate position between chassis front end (3) and chassis rear end (4), and a winch cable (5) extended from the winch (2) to a pulley block (6) mounted on the chassis rear end (4). The pulley block (6) turns the cable (5) and the cable is passed through a fore and aft guide member (13) to the chassis front end (3). Stop members (14, 15) are provided to stop recovery of the cable (5) on to the winch (2) in a predetermined position. For rearward winching, the pulley block (6) is dismounted by a removable pin (7) and cable attachment (11) is secured to a load or an anchor point, and for forward winching cable attachment (15) can be pulled out and secured to a load or an anchor point whilst pulley block (6) is left mounted. For simultaneous rearward and forward winching, both cable attachments (11, 15) can be secured to a load or an anchor point.

The winding drum comprises at least one axial support element and the frame comprises at least another axial support element, and at least either the axial support element of the winding drum or the axial support element of the frame substantially extends round the circumference of the winding drum. The axial support element of the winding drum and the axial support element of the frame are arranged in respect of each other such that the movement of the winding drum in the direction of its longitudinal axis, which is caused by the axial component of the rope force of the hoisting rope, is hindered at least in one direction.

Abstract: The present invention provides a portable pulling apparatus suitable for mounting in an exit pit during installation of a pipeline. A portable pulling apparatus of the invention includes an elongated stake having a lower end portion configured for insertion into the ground and an upper end portion. A winch including a pulling cable is mounted on the upper end portion of the stake by a suitable fixture. The winch can then operate to exert a horizontal pulling force on a cable and is secured against movement when the lower end portion of the stake is inserted into the ground. Such a pulling apparatus can be used in a method of installing an underground pipe according to the invention.

The machine has an internal combustion engine driving a hydraulic pump supplying fluid pressure to a hydraulic motor on a winch spool which holds a length of line for pulling cable through a conduit. The trailer has, at its distal end, a pair of splayed legs allowing the trailer to be backed over-top of the job site conduit so as to position a boom mounted on the trailer to have the boom free end positioned over the conduit. The boom is adjustable for angle of incidence with respect to the ground for achieving a proper pulling angle. The ends of the splayed legs have adjustable jack rods for leveling the trailer.

  • Patent number: 5957242
Abstract: A machine frame with two side members at its ends comprises support arms, which are pivotably mounted in semi-circular cut-out bearing supports. The bearing supports may be arranged on differently high pedestals, which may result in different inclined positions for the machine frame with respect to a machine room floor. The inclined position may provide for a variable looping angle .beta. at the drive pulley and variable cable spacing between the cage cables and the counterweight cables. Furthermore, the deflecting roller may be mounted in laterally displaceable bearing plates. The deflecting roller may be inserted above or below a pair of side members. The position of the deflecting roller with respect to the side members may also have an effect on the looping angle .beta. and the cable spacing. The combination of these adjustment possibilities enables the substantially universally adaptability of the machine frame to different elevator systems and applications.
