  • Patent number: 6431103
Abstract: A motor winch, which is suitable as a sheet or halyard winch (11) for sailing yachts, etc., has an integrated electric or hydraulic drive. The motor (52) is integrated into the winch in such a way that it is located within the winch body and in particular within the winch drum (16). The motor brings about rotation of the winch drum through a multistage gear located in the winch foot (22), optionally assisted by an epicyclic gear (54). A manual operation with a winch crank is made possible by a winch crank nut (32) in the winch head (29). The manual driving shaft is past the somewhat eccentrically positioned motor. A reverse rotation or veering function can be provided in which following the disconnection of the drum locking mechanism, the motor is rotated back in braking manner with a controlled speed.

Abstract: A drive unit has a traction sheave mounted on an end of a drive shaft supported by a bearing that is mounted on an extension of a bearing plate that is part of the motor casing. The traction sheave has an extension that serves as a brake drum. Mounted between the traction sheave and the casing, the brake drum together with first brake arms, second brake arms, first electromagnets, second electromagnets, first compression springs and second compression springs form the braking device of the drive unit. On a top of the bearing plate is a first arm linkage and at the bottom of the bearing plate is a second arm linkage. The force of the first compression spring is transmitted to the brake drum by the first brake arm, the required friction force on the brake drum being generated by a first brake lining mounted on a first brake shoe. The friction force on the second half of the brake is generated analogously.

Abstract: Electrically powered or manually driven clutch and brake mechanism for an electric wince cooperate with a transmission mechanism. The clutch mechanism is provided with a thrust bearing on a clutch shaft and a large clutch gear is then inserted thereon. A lining plate is attached to a clutch plate of the large gear and a pinion gear is attached tightly to the lining plate. Another thrust bearing is placed behind the pinion gear and a compression spring is inserted on the clutch shaft. The large and the pinion gears can be pushed tightly together or loosened as a function of resiliency of the spring. A clutch hand wheel can be provided for manual operation. In addition, the brake mechanism is designed such that a rotating shaft of a motor is provided with a disc brake which has a unidirectional bearing. The disc brake can be squeezed tightly by disc pads.

Abstract: A remote controlled winch operable by a hand held remote control. The winch has a single piece drum that is reversibly driven by a drive motor through a planetary gear arrangement for winding cable onto the drum and unwinding cable off the drum. A remote control capable of handling the high amperage draw of the drive motor is provided to control power to and the rotative direction of the drive motor. The remote control has two switch arms that are connected to the motor leads with each of the switch arms normally biased to a ground connection. A manually operated mechanism is provided to selectively and independently switch (move) each of the switch arms from a ground connection to a connection with a power source to supply power to the motor and control the rotative direction of motor.

Abstract: A hoist for loads that includes an elongated upright support assembly and an elongated extending support assembly pivotally mounted to the upper end of the former. The free end of the elongated radially extending assembly being able to follow a curved path in a horizontal plane. An elastic cable is attached to a non-elastic cable that is wound in a spool assembly so that the equilibrium point for the tool or equipment load can be adjusted at a vertical point. The spool is driven by an electric motor that in turn is activated by the wireless transmission of signals for winding and unwinding. These signals are produced when the tension at the end of the elastic cable attached to the load falls outside a predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 5299033
Abstract: An image reading and recording apparatus such as an electronic blackboard includes a reading unit movable along a guide rail for reading information written on a board, a drive motor integral with the reading unit and operative to move the reading unit relative to the board, and a power transmission mechanism for transmitting a driving force of the drive motor to the reading unit so as to move the reading unit relatively to the board. The power transmission mechanism is composed of a pulley fixed to a drive shaft of the motor and a wire rope extending along the guide rail in a stretched condition and wound around the pulley by one turn. Upon rotation of the motor, the pulley rolls on and along the wire rope, thereby moving the reading unit relative to the board. Due to a large contact area provided between the pulley and the wire rope, the movement of the reading unit is highly reliable and hence the information on the board can be read with high accuracy.

  • Patent number: RE36216
Abstract: An automatic brake for vehicle winch that is automatically applied when the applied torque of the drive motor ceases and automatically released upon application of motor torque. The brake features brake pad segments that move radially outward against the interior of the drum to affect braking and retract radially inward to affect releasing of the brake. The pads have tapered ends that mate with opposed frusto-conical shoes. The brake utilizes rotation of a cam rotatable with respect to a cam follower in one direction to force one shoe toward the other to force the pads radially outward to engage the interior surface of the drum. Rotation of the cam with respect to the cam follower in the opposite direction releases the braking action. A wave spring is incorporated to eliminate chatter as the brake is applied and released. The configuration of the brake components provides a conductive path for the dissipation of heat generated by the braking action.
