Swinging Side Bars Patents (Class 254/49)
  • Patent number: 8272623
Abstract: A lifting device for lifting a shipping container off a flat bed of a truck is described. The device comprises a cross member and a pair of arms connected thereto. The upper ends of the arms engage in the connector castings at the upper end of an end of the container. The cross member carries near its ends a pair of guides through which a pair of legs are slidably mounted. The upper end of each leg has an outwardly directed lug. A block and tackle unit is connected between the lug and the cross member. There is a lifting device at each end of the container. When the unit is actuated the container is lifted off the flat bed so that the truck can move away and the container thereafter lowered on to the ground.

  • Patent number: 7861828
Abstract: A vehicle storage lift includes a base frame having a first floor engaging leg parallel to a second floor engaging leg. A vehicle support supported by the base frame is movable between a load position and a store position. First and second support arms connect the vehicle support to the base frame. Each of the first support arms are connected at one end to the first leg and at an opposing end to the vehicle support. Each of the second support arms are connected at one end to the second leg and at an opposing end to the second frame member.

  • Patent number: 5879122
Abstract: A new container moving vehicle for lifting and moving dumpsters and other similar types of rubbish containers. The inventive device includes a front vehicle portion which is similar to conventional pick-up truck type of vehicles, including a drivers cab, an engine for powering the vehicle, and front wheels. A U-shaped frame is rigidly attached to the rear of the front portion and extends rearwardly therefrom. The frame includes a base end which is secured to the rear of the front portion, and a pair of spaced arms extending from the base end. Each of the arms includes its own wheel assembly for supporting the arms upon the ground, and there is no connection between the wheel assemblies or the arms, such that the U-shape is substantially unobstructed. A U-shaped lift apparatus, having a base end and a pair of spaced arms which are parallel to the arms of the frame, is mounted on the U-shaped frame and is raised or lowered in a vertical direction relative thereto for raising and lowering the container.

  • Patent number: 4892290
Abstract: The majority of combination lifts and carrying frames for use on vehicles such as pickup trucks are complicated including fixed and movable frames, pulleys, chains and even winches. A relatively simple combination lift and stand for use on such a vehicle includes an L-shaped frame for carrying by a vehicle in a collapsed condition with the vertical arm of the L near the cab of the vehicle; and extensible legs pivotally connected to each end of the frame for rotation between stored and inclined, ground engaging positions, whereby, when the legs are rotated from the stored to the ground engaging position and the vehicle is driven in reverse, the frame is pushed to an erect, stand position, and subsequent forward movement of the vehicle leaves the device alone in the erect, stand position. The procedure can be reversed, by driving the vehicle in reverse beneath the stand, attaching the stand to the vehicle and driving forward to cause the stand to collapse onto the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4171793
Abstract: The invention is directed to apparatus which facilitates the mounting and demounting of structures such as camper units from the carrying vehicle, and to the support of the structure in a free standing position apart from the vehicle. The apparatus includes a pair of horizontal support members positioned one on each side of the structure and attached thereto in such a manner that each member can be extended transversally of the structure to provide a broad supporting base for the structure in its free standing position. Supporting struts or legs are pivotally attached to at least each end of each member, and the structure is raised from the supporting vehicle by resting the lower ends of the legs in an inclined position on the ground and then reversing the vehicle to elevate the structure, and bring the legs to a substantially vertical, supporting position.

  • Patent number: 3958707
Abstract: A container transport trailer is provided having a bottomless U-shaped support frame including a cross member and a pair of side members. A lift member is connected to the forward end of the trailer and cooperates with a pair of support arms pivotally connected to the rear ends of the side members of the U-shaped frame to engage against the rear portion of the article. The trailer is suspended above the surface within the U-shaped frame on the lift member and the support arms for travel and is lowered to the ground by the lift member for release.
