Abstract: A jack includes a base member having a first chamber in which a piston is received, a main cylinder connected to base member and having a tube extending therein to which the lifting piston is movably mounted, a casing mounted to the main cylinder so as to define a second chamber between the casing and the main cylinder. A first path connects the second chamber and the first chamber and a second path connects the first chamber and the tube so that fluid enters into the tube to extend the lifting piston by operating the piston. A protection path extends between the outside of the base member and the second path with a first branch path and a second branch path respectively extending from the protection path and connecting the second chamber and the interior of the main cylinder. The pressure in the tube can be released by unscrewing the bolt threadedly engaged with the protection path so as to let the fluid enter into the second chamber and the interior of the main cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5681029
Abstract: Portable, heavy duty jacks used in the railway, mining and construction industries are expensive units including a motor, a pump, a working fluid reservoir and a hydraulic cylinder, all mounted on a wheeled carriage. The jacks are moved to a use location and often left in one position for a lengthy period of time. Thus, it is often necessary to stock a large number of expensive units. A simple solution to the problem involves a single power module including a carriage, a motor, a pump and a fluid reservoir, and separate lift modules including a hydraulic cylinder. A lift module is releasably connected to the power module for moving the module to a use location, where the hydraulic cylinder is actuated to raise a load. The two modules are then disconnected, another lift module is attached to the power module, and the resulting unit is moved to another use location.

  • Patent number: 5499655
Abstract: An improved one-way valve structure for a hydraulic jack includes a stepped inlet end at a L-shaped intake passage for fixing of a filter. The diameter of the filter is slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the intake passage. The filter is designed so that it can be firmly positioned in the inlet end of the intake passage. Hydraulic fluid is filtered by the filter at the intake passage while it is passing through the one-way valve so that foreign particles in the hydraulic fluid from an oil reservoir are completely prevented from entering a pump seating and a pumping cylinder. Hence, the hydraulic fluid entering the pumping cylinder upon pushing of a handle on the pump seating does not contain impurities. In particular, as there are no foreign particles clogging the pressure release passage, normal pressure relief whenever the jack is overloaded can be assured to discharge the hydraulic fluid to the oil reservoir automatically. Consequently, damage to or explosion of the cylinder can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 4706343
Abstract: An hydraulic load binder is disclosed for universal application, the piston rod assembly, the reservoir assembly and the pump assembly all being commonly housed. The channels to and from the pump and the piston rod chamber and the reservoir chamber are controlled by simple check valves. Two additional channels are provided for communicating the top of the piston rod chamber with the reservoir chamber. One of these additional channels includes a check valve which opens when the pressure in the piston rod chamber reaches a predetermined limit. The other additional channel is controlled by a needle valve, which is opened once a rotatable mechanical locking means is placed in locking position against the extended piston rod. Opening the needle valve depressurizes the piston rod chamber. The piston rod chamber is again pressurized to permit the mechanical lock to be released.
