Patent number: 4688024Abstract: A barrier arrangement for blocking a water passage or channel against the admission of a foreign or unfamiliar object, such as underwater vessels, frogmen and the like. The arrangement comprises a net (1) of considerable tensile strength intended to be stretched across the water passage. The bottom edge of the net (1) is anchored to the sea-bed and the net can be activated from a passive state, in which it may lie on the sea-bed, to an active barrier state. To this end, the upper edge of the net (1) is connected to an inflatable and deflatable lifting hose (3) which when evacuated is essentially flat and which when inflated is able to lift the upper edge of the net towards the surface of the water, so as to stretch the net between the sea-bed and the surface of the water. The invention also relates to a barrier net and to an anchoring means for use with the arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1986Date of Patent: August 18, 1987Assignee: Safe Bridge ABInventor: Villy Gadde

Patent number: 4553739Abstract: A flexible barrier element for a passageway defined by two spaced posts is held in a raised taut position to block the passageway by placement of a hand lever having a lost motion connection with the barrier element in a level position of engagement with a bracket fixed on one post. Swinging of the hand lever to a depressed position relative to the bracket on which it is pivotally mounted slackens the flexible barrier element and lowers it to a ground level position allowing unobstructed passage between the posts defining the passageway. A second bracket on the second post has a flexible barrier element attached to it.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1984Date of Patent: November 19, 1985Inventor: Richard M. Baines

Patent number: 4493480Abstract: An electrified fence gate including a tensioned flexible support wire extending horizontally across a fence gate opening, at a height greater than that of vehicles normally intended to pass through the opening, a series of spaced gate wires connected at their upper ends to the support wire and depending closely adjacent but not engaging the road surface, and a fence charger operable to charge the wires with a shocking electric charge. Vehicles, insulated from the ground by their rubber tires, may thus pass freely through the gate without stopping, merely deflecting the hanging wires, but any livestock attempting to pass through, being grounded, will receive an electric shock whenever they touch any of the hanging gate wires, and hence be driven away from the gate.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1983Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Inventor: Bud Nichol

Patent number: 4489516Abstract: A device for the trapping of snakes and similar animals having an area of netting to be placed on the ground and releasably secured thereto and shaped such that a plurality of areas of the netting are substantially non-horizontal to the ground. A snake attempting to traverse the area of netting will pass into an interstice of the area of netting until its body size prevents forward motion. The scales of the snake will engage the strands of the netting preventing the snake from retreating from the netting and thus effectively trapping the snake.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1982Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Inventor: Albert B. Patent number: 4465262Abstract: An improved portable expandable barrier is provided which comprises a pair of fences slideably interconnected and releasably held in a desired orientation by locking means such as lock set cylinders. Preferably, one or both fences include telescoping sections releasably locked together to facilitate expansion of the barrier. In one embodiment the fences include elongated bars over which cylinders are slideably secured.Pins or screws pass through the body of the bars of each fence and into engagement with the cylinder to prevent separation of the fences. The barrier can also include one or more collapsible posts fitted with expandable internal bladders and disposed adjacent pairs of the fences. The fence perimeters are provided with means for releasably locking the fences to the posts or other structures. Such means may be adjustable suction caps, preferably protected by overlaying adjustable bell covers locked in place.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1982Date of Patent: August 14, 1984Inventors: Gary Itri, Mary Riley

Patent number: 4434901Abstract: Safety apparatus is disclosed for a crane including a crane body that rotatably swings about a substantially vertical axis about an undercarriage that moves on endless tracks. The crane body has opposed sides, a front end and back end, and a crane boom projects forwardly from the front end. The safety apparatus includes a length of cable that is supported in spaced relation from the crane body, extending around a portion of its periphery consisting of the crane body sides and back end. The cable is supported in such a manner that it may be laterally deflected, by a person or object, which alters its effective length. The safety apparatus further includes a control device that is operably connected to the cable for generating an electrical alarm signal in response to cable deflection, and an audible alarm connected to the control means for generating an audible alarm in response to the alarm signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1981Date of Patent: March 6, 1984Inventor: Paul O.
