  • Patent number: 6145174
Abstract: A stretcher roller for spreading out moving flexible strip material such as for example plastics film, paper or textiles, has a cylindrical outer surface of elastomeric material, with inclined incisions which are separated from one another by webs. The transition from the surface into an incision which makes an included angle of less than 90.degree. is of rounded or chamfered form. In this way a sharp-edged transition from the surface into the incision in question is avoided. Such sharp edges can damage the strip material if it enters the incision, which is particularly likely at the ends of the roller. The rounded transition avoids this damage.

  • Patent number: 5188273
Abstract: An expander roller for running webs of paper, textile material or the like has a straight metallic or plastic core and an outer layer consisting of two helically convoluted strips of rubber or other elastomeric material. The two convoluted webs are mirror images of each other with reference to a plane which extends between them and is normal to the axis of the core. The external surface of the outer layer is profiled in that it is provided with grooves cut into or otherwise formed in the strips and forming helices as a result of convolution of the respective strips onto the core. Each helical groove is adjacent a deformable lip which defines a portion of the external surface of the outer layer and can yield in response to engagement with a running web. The strips are permanently or detachably bonded to the peripheral surface of the core.

  • Patent number: 4566162
Abstract: An improved stretcher/expander roller is disclosed. The roller includes a rigid core which is rotatably mounted downstream from where a traveling web is slit. An elastomeric covering around the core has at least one pair of helical lands formed in it which each spiral outwardly away from the center of the roller. The lands are inclined outwardly away from the center of the roller and progressively increase in flexibility from the center to the ends of the roller. The roller imparts axial forces on the web strips to simultaneously separate the web strips from one another and cross-stretch each web strip. The lands are made progressively more flexible by either progressively increasing the depth of the helical grooves between the lands, by progressively decreasing the helix angle of the lands, or by progressively decreasing the angle subtended by each land and the axis of the roller, from the center to the ends of the roller.

  • Patent number: 4330909
Abstract: An elongated knit web is flattened and guided by an apparatus having a support frame which extends longitudinally in a plane and which has an upstream and a downstream end. A pivot supports this frame for pivoting about a pivot axis transverse to the plane at the upstream end. • Patent number: 4301579
Abstract: A cylindrical guide for varying the width of a bundle of continuous filaments has a surface in contact with the bundle that has an array of nonparallel grooves. • Patent number: 4291441
Abstract: Apparatus for opening a textile gathered in rope form includes a spreading device and a centering device, downstream of the spreading device, including two cylinders, maintained with their axes parallel but pivotable in a common plane parallel to the general, desired direction of advance of the textile, between two extreme positions inclined on opposite sides of the said direction. The pivoting of the cylinders is controlled through a sensor which senses a displacement of the textile from the desired direction and acts to return the textile to this direction. If the recall action of the cylinders in either extreme position is insufficient, a respective control device is activated which pivots a spreading cylinder of the spreading device out of its normal working position, in which it is parallel to the other spreading cylinder, into one of two extreme positions to exert a further recall action on the textile.

  • Patent number: 4276911
Abstract: At a fabric take-off apparatus the deflection rod arranged forwardly of the cloth take-off roll, is provided at both halves thereof with opposite pitch threaded grooves and, if desired, at the ends thereof with spreader-needle rolls. The fabric, directly after travelling on to the take-off roll, is stretched in its width. Upon departing from the take-off roll the fabric or cloth, at the region where it leaves the take-off roll and arrives at a deflection roll, therefore does not tend to become wider due to the appreciably lower tension of the cloth beam. In this way the formation of creases or folds in the fabric cloth is avoided, which otherwise could be permanently formed at the contact location or nip between the cloth take-off roll and the subsequently arranged deflection beam or roll.

  • Patent number: 4068789
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for controlling the position of a moving web. The web passes between a driven roll and a pair of pressure applicators that are positioned on either side of center of the web path. Edge sensors are located adjacent the driven roll and are operatively connected with the pressure applicators. Once the web misalignment is sensed, the opposite pressure applicator is actuated to apply pressure against the web. The driven roll, preferably a scroll roll, then drives the web in the direction of the pressure applicator until the web returns to proper alignment and the pressure applicator is deactuated. The pressure applicator is preferably a device that is brought into contact with the web and applies frictional forces thereon to cause movement of the web along the roll, while avoiding any substantial frictional forces axially with respect to the normal web path. Structure is also disclosed to uncurl rolled selvages of a moving web.
