Patent number: 10576670Abstract: Methods to increase structural performance, strength, and durability of textile-reinforced composite materials are provided. The textile reinforcement may be knitted, for example, in a flat bed weft knitting machine. The method may include pre-stressing a textile reinforcement preform by applying tension. A polymeric precursor may be introduced to the pre-stressed textile reinforcement preform. The polymeric precursor may then be cured or consolidated, followed by releasing of the applied tension to form the composite article comprising polymer and the pre-stressed textile reinforcement. In other aspects, a composite article is provided that has a pre-stressed textile reinforcement structure and a cured polymer. The textile reinforcement may be a knitted, lightweight, seamless, unitary structure.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2015Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGANInventors: Anthony M. Patent number: 5036780Abstract: The present invention pertains to a feed mechanism for a sewing machine for displacement-free, near-edge connection of two flexible layers of fabric in the direction of sewing. The device, which is to be used as an attachment, consists essentially of a driven, endless feeding arrangement guided in the horizontal direction and a plurality of receiving elements which are designed as clamps. The receiving elements include clamp lower parts arranged at a vertically spaced location from the fabric support surface and clamp upper parts that can be actuated like pushbuttons, as well as a pressing element acting on the clamp upper parts. With their edges that are to be connected, the fabric layers are fed into a flat feeding section and fixed and carried by a first clamp and continually fixed by consecutive clamps in the same position in the device, thus carried along the stitch formation site, and continuously released in the sewn state at a discharge point.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1990Date of Patent: August 6, 1991Assignees: PFAFF Industriemaschinen GmbH, Kochs Adler Aktiengesellschaft, Durokoppwerke GmbHInventor: Fritz Krowatachek

Patent number: 4918796Abstract: A tensioning machine for the continuous treatment of a length of textile material comprises a pair of moving conveyor devices having parallel runs provided with a plurality of grippers. A mechanism for closing the grippers is provided at the inlet end of the conveyor runs and a mechanism for opening the grippers is provided at the outlet end of the conveyor runs. Each of the mechanisms includes a moving actuating device which is driven synchronously with the conveyors and moves in the same direction and at the same speed as the grippers. The tensioning machine is particularly suitable for comparatively high conveying speeds.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1985Date of Patent: April 24, 1990Assignee: Bruckner Trockentechnik GMbH & Co. Patent number: 4879788Abstract: This invention provides a drawing machine for pinching and stretching a film-like material of the type having rails installed extending from an inlet section to the outlet section and returning in the opposite direction from the outlet section back to the inlet section of the drawing machine. There is a clip propelling unit moving on the rails for pinching and stretching the film-like material, and elements for generating mutually repelling magnetic fields between the rails and clips, whereby the clips are movable in the non-contact state while floating from the rail guide surfaces. Thus, no foreign substances are generated, cleanliness of products is enhanced, no noise is generated, the work environment is improved, energy is saved, and highspeed operation is attained.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1988Date of Patent: November 14, 1989Assignee: Mitsubishi Jukogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Tsutomu Suzuki, Tatsushi Seko, Kuniharu Tobita, Saburo Matsubayashi, Nobuhiko Kougo, Kiyoshi Ogawa, Susumu Taniguchi, Masaharu Minami, Masayuki Hayakawa, Noriyuki Kawada

Patent number: 4639984Abstract: A guide track for a tentering chain carrying tentering clamps supports the clamps by a number of rollers to form a tentering frame, especially for a film stretching machine. The guide track is an endless track with U-turns in which a single semicircle type of U-turn has been replaced by a U-turn including two partial curved sections each having a smaller radius of curvature and the two curved sections are interconnected by a straight intermediate section. The reversing or looping curved section at the beginning of the reverse run is so constructed that at this location a drive sprocket wheel can mesh with the tentering chain. Thus, the drive sprocket which was a source of contamination for the web is located remote from the web to thereby substantially reduce any possibilities of contaminating the web.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1985Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Lindauer Dornier Gesellschaft mbHInventor: Rudolf Langer

Patent number: 4050124Abstract: An apparatus for longitudinally stretching a web comprising a pair of spaced apart rotatable members. Associated with each member are a plurality of angularly spaced primary clamps, each radially movable outward, during member rotation, from a primary web engaging position, in which the primary clamps initially engage the edges of the web being transported between the members, for longitudinally stretching the clamped web. Further associated with each member is a plurality of angularly spaced secondary clamps, each angularly interposed between primary clamps and radially movable outward during member rotation from a secondary web engaging position, which is spaced radially outward from the primary web engaging position. The secondary clamps engage the intermediate edges of the web extending between primary clamps, thereby minimizing edge scalloping of the web during continued stretching thereof in unison with engaged primary clamps.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1975Date of Patent: September 27, 1977Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Clive D.
