Patent number: 5990196Abstract: The present invention provides a ground surface structure for prevention of weed growing. The structure includes a germination-preventing sheet (2) resistant to penetration of buds of a plant and laid over the surface of a selected ground (1). The structure also includes a surface layer (3) formed by accumulating a water-repellent earth material on the germination-preventing sheet (2). The earth material includes material grains formed with silicone coating. Typically, the germination-preventing sheet (2) is made of a nonwoven fabric material and resistant to penetration of buds of a plant. Further, the sheet blocks the passage of light, but exhibits water permeability and air permeability.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignees: Yoshiyuki Naoi, Kazumi ToushinInventor: Kazumi Toushin

Patent number: 4134862Abstract: Wet soil containing up to about 40% by wet weight of water is stabilized into a relatively dry, compactable soil mass for use as backfill in excavations by admixing lime and an alkali metal salt of a starch-polyacrylonitrile or starch-polymethacrylonitrile graft copolymer with the soil, allowing the resulting admixture to stand for a short period of time to produce a relatively dry, compactable soil mass, and thereafter using the soil mass as backfill. The aforementioned graft copolymer can also be used as backfill around electrically conductive, grounding members by combining the graft copolymer with a binder or relatively water impervious material, such as a bentonite clay, and interposing the clay/graft coploymer mixture between the grounding member and the surrounding soil.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1977Date of Patent: January 16, 1979Assignee: Construction Aids Technology, Inc.Inventors: Donald A. Eden, William H. Griffin

Method of consolidating porous formations using vinyl polymer sealer with divinylbenzene crosslinker
Patent number: 4070865Abstract: An improved method and composition for consolidating a porous and permeable subterranean particulated formation into a high strength water resistant mass is provided by a particular combination of vinyl monomers, catalyst system and optional features such as solvent, particulate filler, chelates and binders.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1976Date of Patent: January 31, 1978Assignee: Halliburton CompanyInventor: Homer Charles McLaughlin -
Patent number: 4040484Abstract: A composition of matter comprising water, a polymer capable of being crosslinked by polyvalent metal cations, a reducible species containing said polyvalent metal in a higher oxidation state, and a reducing agent selected from among KI, MnCl.sub.2, Mn(NO.sub.3).sub.2, and K.sub.4 Fe(CN).sub.6 which composition is capable of forming a gel by crosslinking is provided. A method is also provided for in situ gel formation using this crosslinking composition. In one of its embodiments a method is provided for increasing the rate of gel formation by the addition of H+ ion.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1975Date of Patent: August 9, 1977Assignee: Phillips Petroleum CompanyInventor: James E. Hessert

Patent number: 4028897Abstract: The invention relates to a soil stabilization composition comprising a rubber latex of solids content at least 40% by weight and a compatible oil which is prepared by admixing the oil and the latex in the presence of additional emulsifier and in the substantial absence of added water. The composition may be applied as such and optionally rotovated into the soil after application. If desired, a bitumen emulsion may be included in the composition.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1976Date of Patent: June 14, 1977Assignee: The International Synthetic Rubber Company, LimitedInventor: Donald Alfred Bennett
