Ionic Cross-link Patents (Class 260/DIG31)
  • Patent number: 3997515
Abstract: Flame retardant, shaped materials comprising a vinyl polymer of crosslinked structure containing in its vinyl units 40 mole-% or more based on the polymer of COOH groups which have been partly converted to COOM (M: a mono- to tri-valent metal) groups, the COOM group content of said polymer being preferably 0.5 to 40 % by weight in terms of metal content.

  • Patent number: 3984608
Abstract: A method is provided for treating ionomeric polymers so as to inhibit the tendency of the polymers to form films. A coating composition including the treated ionomeric polymer is suitable for coating glassware so as to provide glassware having improved resistance to abrasion. The ionomeric polymer coating on the glassware resists film formation when the coating is inadvertently applied to the interior surface of the glassware. The method includes the step of adding colloidal silica to an aqueous dispersion of an ionomeric polymer.

  • Patent number: 3976723
Abstract: An alkyl acrylate polymer is cured by condensing carboxyl groups of the polymer with a polyvalent metal oxide to produce polymeric metallo-carboxylates characterized by a three dimensional cross-linked structure. Metallocarboxylates of improved characteristics are produced by neutralizing at least some of the carboxyl groups by reaction with a basic reagent prior to condensation with the polyvalent metal oxide. Preferably the basic reagent is a monovalent metal compound such as potassium hydroxide.

  • Patent number: 3969434
Abstract: Process for ionically crosslinking first copolymers formed by copolymerizing at least one alpha-olefin of the general formula RCH=CH.sub.2 where R is hydrogen or hydrocarbyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms and at least one alpha, beta-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having 1 to 2 carboxylic acid groups and 3 to 8 carbon atoms, the alpha-olefin content of the first copolymer comprising at least 50 mole percent of the first copolymer, the alpha, beta-ethylenically unsaturated acid content of said first copolymer comprising 0.2 to 25 mole percent of the first copolymer which comprises mixing the first copolymer with a cation-supplying blend of 20 to 80 percent by weight of substantially water-insoluble zinc oxide and/or zinc hydroxide and/or zinc carbonate, 0 to 10 percent by weight of a lubricant and a complemental amount of a second copolymer with a melt index of 50 to 2000 g./10 min. formed as the first copolymer, at a pressure of 100 to 10,000 p.s.i.

  • Patent number: 3950313
Abstract: Polymer compositions and processes for preparing polymer compositions having thermally reversible cross-links are described which compositions comprise a polymer having nitrogen atom-containing groups pendant from the polymer chain cross-linked by co-ordination bonds of nitrogen atoms of adjacent chains with the metal atom of a metal-containing organic compound in which the metal atom is attached to the organic moiety through sulfur or oxygen.
