Abstract: The invention relates to polymeric coating compositions which are at least partially soluble in water.Polyesters, polyesterimides, polyesteramides, polyesteramideimides, polyester hydantoins and polyester urethanes are prepared with free carboxyl or carboxylic acid groups. At least part of the carboxylic acid groups are neutralized with amine containing material producing a coating composition which is at least partially soluble in water. The coating compositions are particularly useful as electric insulating coatings or wire enamels which are readily coated on a metallic or other substrate and when cured from coatings having good electrical and physical properties.
Abstract: A polyurethane topcoat composition is provided comprising a water-free organic solvent solution containing from 0.5-2.6 isocyanate equivalents of the biuret of 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate per hydroxy equivalent of the polyesterification reaction product of the components set forth below having an acid number of less than 7:______________________________________ Parts by Permitted Component Weight Variation ______________________________________ 1,6-hexanediol 11.63 .+-. 1.0 di-(2-hydroxyethyl) dimethylhydantoin 20.92 .+-. 1.0 trimethylol propane 17.75 .+-. 1.0 dimethyl terephthalate 28.10 .+-. 1.0 adipic acid 21.15 .+-. 1.
Abstract: A process for preparing compounds which contain hydantoin groups, which is characterized in that compounds which contain isocyanate or isothiocyanate groups are reacted with compounds which contain an .alpha.-halocarboxylic acid group or derivatives thereof at least once in the molecule.
