Patent number: 5246633Abstract: A device for collecting used steam from a steam-power operated apparatus includes a low pressure tank connected to the steam-power operated apparatus and a collecting tank provided downstream of the low pressure tank. The collecting tank has a top and a bottom. A condensate recycling pipe has a first end connected to the bottom and a second end directed toward the top. A suction chamber is provided in the collecting tank adjacent to the top and has a top inlet and a bottom outlet. A nozzle is provided at the top inlet and connected to the second end of the condensate recycling pipe. A pump is connected to the condensate recycling pipe for pumping condensate from the collecting tank into the condensate recycling pipe. A suction pipe has a first end connected to the low pressure tank and a second end connected to the suction chamber adjacent to the nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1992Date of Patent: September 21, 1993Inventor: Chin-Lin Teng

Patent number: 5168922Abstract: A barometric direct-contact steam condenser (10) in which a stream of vapor and formed condensate contacts a free surface of the condensate, which surface is preferentially removed, preferably continuously, so as to provide a cooler surface against which and/or as a result of which more vapor can condense.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1990Date of Patent: December 8, 1992Inventor: Daya R. Senanayake

Patent number: 5154227Abstract: A jet condenser of the type comprising a water chamber in a mixing chamber (24) and an after-cooler (52), wherein the water chamber is subdivided in a narrower upper water chamber portion (38a) and a broader lower water chamber portion (39b). The after-cooler (52) is fixed at the junction (66) of both water chamber portions (38a, 38b). Cooling water is injected into the mixing chamber (24) by nozzles (40) of the upper water chamber portion (38a) where it flows in vertical direction. By the reduced width of the upper water chamber portion (38a) flow resistance of steam flow in the mixing chamber (24) and, thereby, undesired subcooling is substantially diminished. (FIG. 3).Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1991Date of Patent: October 13, 1992Assignee: Energiagazdalkodasi IntezetInventors: Gabor Csaba, Janos Bodas, Gyorgy Bergmann, Gyorgy Frank, Gyorgy Palfalvi

Patent number: 4444246Abstract: The system removes heat from a vessel containing the source of heat, utilizing heat energy from water circulating through the vessel. The circulating water passes through a subcooler and into a convergent-divergent nozzle of a flash jet pump. Cooled water is drawn into the flash jet pump by the high-velocity flow generated, mixes with the water flashed into steam and condenses it. The mixture flows to the inlet connection of the pressure vessel. A second flash jet pump is utilized to initially fill the vessel with coolant water. Steam in the vessel is condensed in a shock condenser.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1981Date of Patent: April 24, 1984Inventor: Arnold Otto W. Reinsch

Patent number: 4445023Abstract: A thermal storage heater system for heating fluids includes a storage tank for accumulating and storing energy in the form of a quantity liquid heated to a high temperature by an electric immersion heating element in the tank. A source of a first fluid to be heated is connected to the inlets of pilot and primary heat exchangers immersed in the high temperature liquid for transferring heat to the first fluid. A first circuit connects the outlet of the pilot heat exchanger to a point of use. A second fluid circuit connects the outlet of the primary heat exchanger to the point of use and includes a spring-loaded pressure sensitive check valve responsive to the flow rate in the first circuit for regulating the flow of fluid through the primary heat exchanger in response to a change in flow indicative of insufficient heating of the fluid by the pilot heat exchanger. The system includes an additional heat exchanger for heating a second fluid to be heated.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1980Date of Patent: April 24, 1984Assignee: Vapor CorporationInventor: James L. Patent number: 4246890Abstract: A device making use of the gravity generated imbalance within a portion of the system confined upward and downward flowing liquid. A condensed gas of lower boiling point is induced to the portion of the upward flowing heated liquid of higher boiling point. The formation of gas bubbles upon evaporation of the condensed gas within the upward flowing heated liquid, causing fluid displacement thereof, thereby causing a imbalance between the upward flowing liquid and gas mixture, and the downward flowing solid liquid after being separated from the gas. Thus, gravity causing the continuous pumping action of the liquid throughout the system.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1979Date of Patent: January 27, 1981Inventors: Robert A. Kraus, Edmund J. Kraus

Patent number: 3987130Abstract: Apparatus for blending dry or slightly moist steam with water to produce wet steam of 20% to 70% moisture content by weight for treating logs or other objects in a closed steam treatment vat or vault. The apparatus includes a blender having a mixing chamber, to one end of which comparatively dry steam from a suitable source is supplied at constant pressure and flow rate through a pilot-operated pressure reducing main valve and a metering orifice. The blender also has a port through which water at a constant pressure and volume is supplied to the mixing chamber by a positive displacement pump maintained under a constant gravity head of water in an elevated supply tank. The outlet of the blender is connected to a back pressure regulator for controlling the outlet pressure of the blended mixture of water and steam to be supplied to the vault. The pilot valve is connected across the main steam valve and has a solenoid valve connected in the line supplying operating fluid to said main valve.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1968Date of Patent: October 19, 1976Assignee: Clayton Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Perry Arant
