  • Patent number: 8187512
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the pelletization of plastics and/or polymers, in which a melt coming from a melt generator is supplied via a diverter valve having different operating positions to a plurality of pelletizing heads through which the melt is pelletized. The plurality of pelletizing heads have different throughput capacities and are used sequentially for the start-up of the pelletizing process, with the melt first being supplied to a first pelletizing head having a smaller throughput capacity and then the melt volume flow being increased and the diverter valve being switched over such that the melt is diverted by the diverter valve to a second pelletizing head having a larger throughput capacity.

Abstract: In a process for fabricating large structures, a composite material panel is continuously pultruded in a pultrusion die assembly and cut transversely to the process direction to provide panel sections. The panel sections can be sufficiently long to extend from one end to an opposite end of the structure. The panel sections are assembled with a joint along adjacent edges using steel-to-composite and composite-to-composite joining technology. The joints can be integrated into the panel longitudinal edges, or separate joint assemblies can be fabricated. In this manner, fewer joints are required. Abstract: A method for manufacturing building elements, in particular building panels, from solid waste is described, in which the latter is provided, sorted according to category, in different fractions of a specified particle size. The different fractions are mixed in specified proportions with addition of water and binder. The resulting mixture is subjected to a continuous extrusion process, in which a strand-like preproduct is produced. Through a cutting operation, the desired dimensions of the building element in the extrusion direction are at least approximately produced. The building-element blanks are then dried and the binder present therein is set. This continuously working process is much more economical compared with the prior art and can be carried out on a large-scale industrial basis.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an extruded rod-shaped device which comprises at least one biological substance and a lipoid composition that comprises a high melting lipid or lipoid component and a low melting lipid or lipoid component. The extruded rod-shaped device according to the present invention is obtainable by extrusion of a preparation comprising the lipoid composition and the at least one biological substance, the preparation being extruded at a temperature which is at or above the melting point of the low melting lipid or lipoid component but below the melting point of the high melting lipid or lipoid component. Such an extruded rod-shaped device is capable of continuously and homogenously releasing the biological substance into the body of an animal or a human while maintaining the biological activity the biological substance and may for example be used as an implant.

Abstract: Methods for manufacturing panel units may include applying a cover tape to a surface of a panel in such a way as to substantially extend along a periphery of the panel. An extrusion molding die may be moved relative to the panel in such a way that the extrusion molding die moves along the periphery of the panel while at least partially contacting the cover tape applied to the panel. At the same time, a molten molding material may be extruded from the extrusion molding die, thereby integrally forming a molded article on the periphery of the panel. The cover tape may be then removed from the surface of the panel in order to produce a panel unit having the molded article disposed along the periphery of the panel.

Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) tag and method of manufacturing the same. In a preferred embodiment, the RFID tag includes a radio frequency (RF) inlay, the RF inlay including a carrier sheet, an antenna printed on the carrier sheet and a wireless communication device bonded to the antenna. The RFID tag also includes a plastic extrudate, the RF inlay being disposed within the extrudate so that the antenna and the wireless communication device are encapsulated on all sides within the extrudate. Optional metallic reflector and mounting adhesive layers may be laminated onto the underside of the extrudate. The present invention is also directed to an automated method for manufacturing the above RFID tag, such a method involving, in one embodiment, feeding a continuous supply of RF inlays into a cross-head extruder to yield a continuously extruded block and then cutting the block between successive antennae to yield a plurality of individual RFID tags.
