Abstract: A method of making a golf ball comprising the steps of providing a preform comprising an uncured polybutadiene composition; curing the preform for a first isothermal step at a cure cycle index of 200 or less to form a crosslinked golf ball core having an outer diameter of 1.0 inches or greater, and an outer surface having a first hardness and a geometric center having a second hardness equal to or greater than the first to define a zero hardness gradient or a negative hardness gradient, wherein the cure cycle index has a formula CCI time = ? n = 1 n ? t n ? Log ? ? T n where t=time in min, T=temperature in ° C., and n=the number of the isothermal step; and forming at least one cover layer about the core to form the golf ball.

Abstract: A device is formed by the process into a bone screw or fastener, wherein the head has a degree of polymer alignment and strength, and wherein the shank has a higher degree of polymer alignment and strength. In practice of the present invention, the polymer slug is pressed into the die cavity by the actuation of ram press, causing the slug to conform to the die cavity. Through this process, the polymer molecular orientation is aligned to different degrees, in different zones of the device.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of forming a chemical mechanical polishing pad, comprising providing a tank with polymeric materials and providing a storage hopper with microspheres having an initial bulk density, wherein the storage hopper further comprises a porous membrane provided over a plenum. The method further provides the steps of connecting a fluidizing gas source to the plenum through a gas inlet line and fluidizing the microspheres and reducing the initial bulk density by feeding gas into the plenum. In addition, the method further provides the steps of providing a delivery system for delivering the polymeric materials and the microspheres to a mixer, forming a mixture of the polymeric materials and the microspheres, pouring the mixture into a mold to form a molded product and cutting the molded product into the polishing pad.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus are disclosed for making patterning tools from one or more discrete elements. Such tools can have one or more “seams” or joints where the individual elements abut which can limit the tools' performance and utility in roll-to-roll manufacturing. Methods are described herein for producing “near-seamless” tools, that is, tools having seams that exhibit minimum disruption of the tool pattern and thus improved material produced by such tools. The patterning tools can be cylindrical and/or closed in shape.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a hybrid structure (100) having a layer of CMC material (28) defining an interior passageway (24) and a layer of ceramic insulating material (18) lining the passageway. The method includes the step of casting the insulating material to a first thickness required for effective casting but in excess of a desired second thickness for use of the hybrid structure. An inner mold (14) defining a net shape desired for the passageway remains in place after the casting step to mechanically support the insulating material during a machining process used to reduce the thickness of the insulating material from the as-cast first thickness to the desired second thickness. The inner mold also provides support as the CMC material is deposited onto the insulating material. The inner mold may include a fugitive material portion (20) to facilitate its removal after the CMC material is formed.
