  • Patent number: 10442129
Abstract: An extrusion blow mold machine forming hollow containers. The machine has at least one pair of opposing half molds that combine to form a mold and define a mold cavity. Each of the half molds is positioned on a carrier plate and includes first, second, and third mold segments. The first and third mold segments can move with respect to each other and with respect to the second, fixed mold segment. A mechanical structure creates vertical movement of the first and third mold segments relative to the second mold segment as the mold opens horizontally, without the aid of any electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic device. A closing unit engages the carrier plate to move the carrier plate and its respective half mold toward and away from the opposing half mold and its respective carrier plate, thereby closing and opening the mold.

Abstract: The apparatus includes advancement clamps which move two mutually facing films along an advancement direction on which the following are arranged in sequence: two welding half-molds, which by mutually welding the two films in preset regions define cells which are open toward a longitudinal edge of the films; two half-molds for heating the welded films; a cell forming station. Air injection nozzles, inserted between the two flaps of the films on the side of the above mentioned longitudinal edge, and two forming half-molds, in which forming cavities are defined at the cells, operate in the forming station. Divaricators for divaricating the two flaps of the films are provided proximate to the forming station so as to facilitate the insertion of the air injection nozzles.

Abstract: A blow molded article and an apparatus and method for blow molding the article including a recessed lip. The apparatus includes two plates reciprocally movable toward and away from one another A center ring member and a separating ring are fixedly and perpendicularly mounted on each plate. A mold half is mounted on each plate and is divided into two sections. One section is located on each side of the center ring member and is reciprocally movable toward and away from the center ring member. A first insert member is provided in each mold section in proximity to said center insert member. The first insert has a channel therein for receiving a second insert member. • Patent number: 5205885
Abstract: A process for the production of tighthead drums having dimensional stability of the injection molded lids and blow molded drum bodies, comprises blow molding double drum bodies from plastic and centrally separating them into two drum bodies. Tighthead lids are produced by injection molding from plastic. The tighthead lids are then welded to the drum bodies. Widemouth drums are also produced by blow molding double drum bodies from plastic and centrally separating them into two drum bodies, but with a molded-on edge at a distance under the drum opening. Drum lids are injected molded from plastic with an outside flange molded-on the lower lid edge. A sealant of plastic is injected into the lids and the lids are positioned on the drum bodies sealed with a clamping ring.

  • Patent number: 5202078
Abstract: An apparatus for producing blow-molded containers having thickened flanges. The apparatus utilizes major mold halves and a plurality of minor mold elements disposed within the mold halves to form containers having thickened flanges. The minor mold elements move radially relative to the mold halves and the joined pair of containers. While the blow-molded material is still moldable, the minor mold elements move radially inward to fold and bond the material onto itself, forming a pair of thickened radial flanges on each container. The flanges are each substantially twice as thick as a single layer of blow-molded material. Longitudinally-oriented reinforcing ribs are formed at the interstices of the minor mold elements which link the two thickened flanges and further strength the containers.

Abstract: Improved resin compositions for use in multiple cavity stretch blow molding processes comprising: (a) a propyleneethylene copolymer resin including from about 5% to about 15% of a second stage polymer characterized by a cycle time of T.sub.1, when used to produce containers in multiple cavity stretch blow molding processes; (b) from about 0.1% to about 1.0% of a nucleating agent prepared by irradiating in air a mixture of a propylene homo or copolymer and about 500 to about 3000 ppm of antioxidant with a sufficient amount of ionizing radiation to cause said nucleating agent to have a xylene insoluble content of at least 30%. The improved resin composition is characterized by a cycle time of T.sub.2 when used to produce containers in multiple cavity stretch blow molding processes such that the ratio of T.sub.2 /T.sub.1 is less than 0.95.

  • Patent number: 5118460
Abstract: Bottle capsules (1), shrinkable onto a bottle neck, are produced by blow molding. An extruded plastic tube (2), in a thermoelastic state, is introduced into dual molds (3a) tangentially, in vertical motion from top to bottom. Each dual mold (3a) has a constriction (7) which is penetrated by a movably mounted injector (8), for introduction of a blow molding medium. The plastic tube (2) is expanded substantially radially only, and the most severe expansion occurs in the area around the constriction. The molds (3a) are mounted in a turntable (4) driven continuously about a horizontal shaft.

Abstract: A mold and a process for controlling the weight and wall thickness distribution in a blow molded plastic manufactured article or a family or related articles involves simultaneous formation of the manufactured article and a waste article. The waste article is removed and recycled to manufacture further articles. The waste article forming chamber increases the apparent depth of the manufactured article chamber to create a larger apparent surface area, so that the parison is being blown over a much larger surface area, creating a reduced actual part weight and actual wall thickness.

  • Patent number: 4988399
Abstract: A method of producing a pair of container bodies. A cylindrical, hollow preform of a thermoplastic polymer material having a cylindrical body having a sidewall and an opened neck finish on each longitudinal end of the preform is provided. The preform is heated to a temperature above the glass transition temperature of the polymer and below the melting temperature of the polymer, and is stretched. The preform is stretched longitudinally by applying force to at least one of the ends, and is stretched transversely by introducing fluid pressure into the preform sufficient to form a stretch blown component having a first neck at one end and a second neck at the other end, and a body portion between the necks. The stretch blown component is separated transversely through the body to provide two container bodies, each having a neck finish corresponding dimensionally with the respective neck finish on the preform from which the container bodies are stretch-blown.
