  • Publication number: 20120286457
Abstract: A method and apparatus for fabricating a composite part with a shape memory polymer (SMP) apparatus usable as both a rigid tool and as a bladder. The SMP apparatus may be heated until malleable, shaped, and then cooled in a desired rigid tool configuration. The composite material may be applied onto the SMP apparatus and then placed into a rigid external mold and heated to composite cure temperatures at which the SMP apparatus is malleable. In some embodiments, an impermeable sheet of material may also be placed over portions of the composite material to compress it against the SMP apparatus. A pressure differential may be induced which urges the SMP apparatus to compress the composite material against the rigid external mold. When the composite material is cured, the pressure differential may be equalized and/or reversed and the malleable SMP apparatus may be removed from within the composite part.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing lamp shell to improve structural strength and light penetration includes steps of: providing a plastic material, injecting the plastic material into a injection molding equipment to form a preform containing a first space with an opening and a connecting section at one end and a closed another end to form a light penetrating section, and placing the preform in a blow molding equipment and blowing the plastic material by injecting gas to inflate the preform through gas pressure to form a second space at a greater size than the first space to become a lamp shell. The lamp shell thus formed has a greater structural strength to meet safety requirements, and also provides improved light penetration, and can reduce material consumption of the lamp shell to save production cost.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present techniques provide electrolyzers made using thermoformed electrode assemblies and diaphragm assemblies. Each electrode assembly is made from two plastic rings and an electrode plate using a twin sheet thermoforming technique. A first plastic ring is laid in a mold having the appropriate shape to form the electrode assembly. The electrode plate is laid on top of the first plastic ring and is generally centered on the ring. The second plastic ring is laid over the electrode plate, and is generally centered over the electrode plate. The plastic is heated to soften the plastic, and a vacuum is pulled on the mold to pull the softened plastic into the shape of the mold. The mold is closed over the assembly to seal the two plastic rings together. After cooling, the molded part may be removed, resulting in a hollow plastic rim surrounding an electrode plate.

  • Patent number: 7803311
Abstract: A device for molding a container from a thermoplastic material in which a heated parison is pre-blown by supplying low-pressure blowing air from a low-pressure air supply and then the blow molding is completed by subsequent supply of high-pressure blowing air and in which the high-pressure blowing air flowing out of the container that has been completely blow molded is supplied to the low-pressure air supply via a reversing mechanism during a transitional phase. A pressure monitoring is performed in the area of the low-pressure air supply and in which, after the transitional phase, the container is vented with respect to an ambient pressure whereby the pressure in the low-pressure air supply is controlled by varying the duration of the transitional phase.

  • Patent number: 7790097
Abstract: The method and device are used to blow form containers. A preform is elongated by means of an elongation bar after thermal conditioning inside a blow mould and is moulded into a container under the effect of the blow pressure. Initially, a first blow pressure provided by a low pressure supply is used, followed by a higher pressure provided by a high pressure supply (43). The blow air is supplied via at least one blow pressure valve and at least one part of the high pressure blow air is fed into the low pressure supply after the container has been formed. The reintroduction of blow air into the low pressure supply is controlled by means of a return valve (47) which is mounted parallel to the blow pressure valve. An outlet of the return valve is connected to the low pressure supply.

Abstract: A plastic container that is preferably formed using a blow molding and trimming process includes a container main body portion and a lid mounting portion. The lid mounting portion includes a sealing flange and a flexible transition portion connecting the sealing flange to the container main body portion. The flexible transition portion preferably has at least one notch defined therein so as to form a hinge permitting downward movement of the sealing flange when a lid is secured on to the container. In another embodiment, more than one notch is provided defining multiple hinges that provide a compound hinge effect in order to reduce stresses on the molded plastic material during use of the container.

Abstract: A fuel tank that is substantially impermeable to fuel vapor has a shell with an interior for holding fuel, an opening for receiving fuel into the interior, and a fill nipple with a barrier layer. The fill nipple has an outer surface and an inner surface defining a passage extending between a pair of generally opposed ends of the fill nipple. One of the ends is attached to the shell such that the passage is aligned with the opening to allow fuel to flow through the passage and into the interior of the fuel tank. The fill nipple has an inner layer of material forming the inner surface, and an outer layer of material forming the outer surface, and has at least one intermediate layer of material forming the barrier layer. The intermediate layer is formed from a material that is different in composition from the inner and outer layers.

Abstract: The present invention relates to thermoplastic hollow vessels, tanks, drums and other industrially applicable housings. The invention is adaptable as plastic fuel tanks with low fuel permeability, e.g., less than 5 g.·mm/m2 day as a mono-layer structure. These vessels exhibit good sub 0 0C impact properties and are formed by relatively inexpensive blow molding or rotomolding processes. Disclosed are mono-layered hollow vessels comprising an uncompatibilized, fused blend composition of polyoxymethylene, thermoplastic polyurethane and a copolyester. In one embodiment mono-layered hollow vessels comprise uncompatibilized, fused polyoxymethylene, thermoplastic polyurethane and copolyester in the respective wt. amounts of 100, 5-15 and 5-15. According to a more preferred aspect the wt. ratio of thermoplastic polyurethane to copolyester is from 1:3 to 3:1.
