  • Patent number: 8231824
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for producing an endless double-walled pipe having corrugated pipe sections and sleeve pipe sections are described. The production is effected by extrusion of an outer tube (Sa), forming the outer pipe of the double-walled pipe, and of an inner tube (Si), forming the inner tube of the double-walled pipe, in a molding passage (10) having sections with a corrugated molding surface and a smooth cylindrical sleeve molding surface. To shape the sleeve section, the outer tube is extruded into the sleeve molding surface and is brought into contact with the sleeve molding surface. The inner tube (Si) is then extruded into the outer tube (Sa), already in contact over the entire axial length of the sleeve molding surface, and is brought in the process into contact with the inner side of said outer tube (Sa) that is in contact.

  • Patent number: 5928581
Abstract: In a blow-molding system in which a parison programmer is coupled to orifice tooling in an extrusion die head for controlling wall thickness of an extruded parison fed to a blow-molding apparatus, a method of synchronizing operation of the parison programmer contemplates placement of observable indicia on the parison after the parison exits the die head. This indicia placement preferably is carried out under control of the parison programmer to place the indicia at a predetermined position along the parison profile, such that mis-positioning of the indicia indicates absence of phase synchronization of the parison programmer. The indicia is then observed on a molded article to determine phasing of the parison programmer relative to the molding apparatus, and operation of the parison programmer is adjusted to correct any mis-positioning.

  • Patent number: 5785920
Abstract: A rod 3 is driven forward to open an annular slit 5 between a die 2 and a mandrel 4 and the molten resin in a resin accumulation chamber 10 is expelled from annular slit 5 to form a parison. In this operation, the die 2 is displaced from an original position adjoining to the mandrel 4 (axially aligned position) upon opening of the annular slit 5 to correct for any variation in thickness of parison P to be extruded from the annular slit 5. Then, the molten resin accumulated in accumulation chamber 10 is expelled from annular slit 5 to form parison P. The die 2 is then reset to the original position to bring the die 2 and mandrel 4 into axial alignment. Therefore, as the rod 3 is driven back, the annular slit 5 can be closed tight by the mandrel 4 to prevent resin leakage. After closure of the annular slit 5, molten resin is accumulated again in the accumulation chamber 10 and the annular slit 5 is opened. This procedure is repeated to produce parisons on an intermittent basis.

  • Patent number: 5718852
Abstract: The method for controlling a blowmolding machine during a process of making an object is disclosed. The machine includes a die head, a mandrel and an extruder that rotates and drives a plastic material between the mandrel and the die head to form a plurality of elongated parisons. The method comprises setting the distance between the die head and the mandrel and the rotation speed of the extruder to accomplish predetermined target values of the weight of the object and parison velocity. Plastic material is fed to the machine and the extruder is operated to form the parisons. A parameter related to the viscosity or melt index of the plastic material in the extruder is detected and the material distribution function and the speed of the extruder are adjusted in response to the parameter so that object weight and velocity of the parisons made are maintained substantially at target values.

The rectangular cutout section expands the material flow channel between the die ring and the mandrel to increase the volume flow of material passing through the die exit at the rectangular cutout section. However, the constant length of the rectangular cutout section in a longitudinal direction maintains a constant linear velocity of material flowing through the die exit.

Abstract: In that process for the production of hollow bodies from thermoplastic material by extrusion blow molding in which discontinuously extruded preforms are expanded in a blow molding mold, at least during that part of the filling phase which is typical of such a process, for an extrusion head, the distance covered by an ejection piston associated with a storage chamber and the speed at which the ejection piston is displaced within the storage chamber by the plasticised material are detected and compared by a central control and regulating device to the respective reference values. On the basis of the result of the comparison operation at least one operating parameter of the process, for example the delivery output of the extruder or the extent of the emptying strike movement of the ejection piston can then be adapted while still in the same working cycle in such a way that substantially the required preform volume is ejected.

Abstract: A parison length control method for a blow molding machine in which a parison is extruded vertically, the end of the parison is closed, and a blowing gas is blown into the closed parison. The method includes the step of deriving a relationship between parison length and extruder screw rotation speed during a test molding process. Current parison length is then detected during normal molding operation, and the difference between the current parison length and a target parison length is derived. The extruder screw rotation speed is then controlled by calculating a correction amount for the extruder screw rotation speed based on the parison length difference in combination with the relationship between parison length and extruder screw rotation speed. The extruder screw rotation speed is then adjusted by the correction amount so as to attain the target parison length.
