  • Patent number: 10183437
Abstract: A rotary apparatus for hydraulic forming of shaped containers including a rotatable forming wheel having a central axis of rotation and a plane of rotation perpendicular to the axis of rotation. A plurality of forming stations is supported by the forming wheel. The forming stations are operable to expand a preform into a shaped container by forcing a liquid into the preform. The longitudinal axis of each forming station forms an angle with the plane of rotation of the forming wheel of less than 20° while the preform is being expanded. The projection of the longitudinal axis of each forming stations onto the plane of rotation of the forming wheel forms an angle with the radial direction at the position of the forming station of less than 20° while the preform is being expanded.

The carrousel is indexed to cause each mold to pause by each work station one time during each carrousel revolution. The molds pause by each work station to allow blow-molding operations to be performed in conjunction with each mold at each work station. At one blow-molding work station, located at the 12:00 position of the mold path, an extruder injects parison into each mold. At the other work station, located in the 9:00 position of the mold path, a take-out mechanism extracts blow molded articles from the molds. The carrousel is additionally indexed, i.e.

Abstract: A blow molding apparatus is provided including a blow mold, an extrusion apparatus, a locator mechanism, and a blow pin. The blow mold has first and second blow mold halves which are engageable and disengageable with one another. The first and second blow mold halves define first and second inner cavities when the mold halves are engaged. The first cavity has a first shape and the second cavity has a second shape which differs from the first shape. The extrusion apparatus has a die head through which a parison is extruded. The locator mechanism is associated with one of the blow mold and the extrusion apparatus for changing the positioning between the blow mold and the die head to allow capture of an extruded parison by the first and second mold halves within a desired one of the first and second inner cavities such that the extruded parison can be formed into an article having substantially the same shape as the desired cavity.

Abstract: An in-mold labelling system for automatically applying labels to the interior of blow mold halves prior to the placement of preforms within such blow mold halves; the preforms are blown to form containers with a label attached thereto. The labelling system is mounted on a rotating drum having a plurality of blow mold sets. A label magazine is also mounted on the drum and preferably carries two stacks of labels. Associated with each label stack is a support shaft having at one end a transverse arm which, in turn, carries a suction cup for pick-up and deposit of the label. The other end of the support shaft extends through a drive mechanism for rotating the support shaft so as to swing the transverse arm to a first position for label pick-up from the magazine and then to a second position for label deposit in the blow mold.

Abstract: A rotary blow molding machine includes a plurality of mold stations on a rotary carousel. Each mold station includes a pair of mold sections movable toward and away from one another to close or open the mold sections. When closed, the mold sections define a mold blowing cavity and a mold mouth communicating with the blowing cavity and opening external of the closed mold sections. • Patent number: 4902217
Abstract: The blow molding machine includes a rotary carousel having a plurality of mold stations thereon with each mold station including a pair of openable and closeable mold sections. A rotary take-out mechanism removes a blown article from each pair of mold sections as they pass the take-out mechanism. In particular, the take-out mechanism includes a take-out member inserted into the blown article to grip same while the mold sections are closed. The take-out member is carried on a turret arm rotated in oscillatory manner about the axis of revolution of the carousel and in synchronism therewith to cause the inserted take-out member to follow rotation of the mold sections as they are opened. When the mold sections are sufficiently opened, the take-out member is rotated about another axis so as to remove the blown article from between the opened mold sections. The take-out member is carried on a spindle that is rotatably indexable on the turret arm about the other axis.
