  • Patent number: 6808675
Abstract: A bag, method of manufacture and process are disclosed for the cryopreservation of thermolabile substances. The bag is characterized as having substantially uniform thickness throughout its length and height. The bag features a radiused peripheral edge wall for stress relief and to provide the constant cross-section. A peripheral flashing circumscribes the radiused edge wall and provides a suitable purchase area for sealing so that the thus formed bag is less susceptible to fracture particularly when exposed to cryogenic temperatures. The uniform thickness of the bag promulgates uniform heat transfer to and from the contents of the bag in relation to any surrounding medium at a different temperature. The bag affords more space for efficient storage and reduces heat invasion into the contents of the bag when a plurality of bags are placed with their larger planar surfaces in contact with each other.

Abstract: A simultaneous twinsheet thermoforming system having a carousel rack to simultaneously move two sheets of thermoplastic together through a heating station and a forming station. The two thermoplastic sheets are vertically disposed on upper and lower tiers of the rack. The single heating station includes vertically disposed upper and lower ovens, which both sheets pass through simultaneously. The ovens each include upper and lower heating platens, the lower platens being movable to accommodate for sagging thermoplastic. The forming station includes upper and lower vacuum molds that are movable from an open position to a closed position. In the open position, the two sheets are moved in between the mold faces. The molds are driven together to contact the sheets and simultaneously form the two sheets to the two molds. At least one of the two molds is further moved to establish contact between at least portions of the two sheets, thus fusing them together.

  • Publication number: 20030077005
Abstract: A process for the production of water-soluble pouches. The process comprises the steps of drawing a first film into a mould to form a first compartment, adding composition to the first compartment, drawing a second film into the mould to form a second compartment which comprises a composition and, preferably, sealing. The first film is perforated and the second film is drawn into the mould by means of suction applied through the first film. This eliminates the need to align separately formed pouches or containers. This also reduces the total amount of film needed to produce a multi-compartment pouch. Furthermore, it is very easy to vary the film material used according to what properties are desired. Since the different compartments may require different properties this adds flexibility to the process.

The preheated sheet in the lower mold has a full vacuum drawn thereon to mold such first sheet into the final form of the front door panel. A partial vacuum is drawn on the second sheet to partially form the plastic sheet into the configuration of the final form of the inner door panel and thence the preformed second sheet is transferred to an upper male mold by drawing a full vacuum on the upper mold to effect such transfer and molding to a finished inner door configuration. The two panels thence have their outer perimeters fusion bonded to form a closed chamber that is filled with foam insulation after cooling of the formed and joined door panels.

  • Patent number: 5500067
Abstract: A multi-station apparatus and method of manufacture allows the manufacture of an article having a fluid filled cavity fabricated from simultaneously fed twin thermoplastic webs. A web transport means simultaneously feeds twin thermoplastic webs into an apparatus, where a oven raises the temperature of the material of the webs for thermoforming and molding. The cavity then is partially fusing to provide an injection and outlet port and a fluid is injected into the cavity, which is then sealed to provide a finished article. The fluid can be formed from a super absorbent material as a thick, viscous gel-like colloidal substance.

  • Patent number: 5454997
Abstract: An appliance door particularly suited for use as a refrigerator or freezer door includes a hollow, blow molded door slab, and a food storage shell or casing projecting from one wall of the slab. The parts forming the shell are prepared in a first step, e.g., by blow molding, and then are removably mounted as inserts in registering recesses formed in the bottom of the cavity of one of two plates or sections forming the mold for the door slab. The two mold sections are then closed over a tubular, plastic parison which is then inflated to form in the mold the hollow door slab, portions of one wall of which mold over and around a series of male projections which extend into the mold cavity from the mold inserts, thus causing the shell to be molded to and to project from the slab upon subsequent opening of the mold sections and removal of the slab therefrom.

Abstract: Equipment and method for manufacturing integral monolithic structures, using reinforcing fiber layers impregnated with thermosetting resins. The apparatus has an equipment base, which determines the shape of the structure, a cover of the equipment, two side supports enclosed by an outer bag of nylon or similar material and by as many supporting elements as the number of bays required breathing material; a sheet of parting film, sealing mastic, vacuum application valves, a tubular parting film and tubular bags. The invention simplifies the manufacturing process and is particularly important in the aeronautical field and wherever there is a need for very low weight, high structural efficiency and high quality standards.

  • Patent number: 5407632
Abstract: In producing a twin sheet thermoformed structure, a mold is provided with major rib producing structures segregrated into discrete tabs with gaps between tabs. A first sheet of material is fused upon itself by drawing the material into the gaps between tabs from both sides of the gap. The material drawn into the gaps fuses upon contact with material being drawn into the gap from the other side forming a cross rib which tends to stabilize the side walls of the major rib. The first sheet is then fused to a second sheet of material to create a twin sheet structure.
