Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for the compression of granular materials. On compressing granular material to give prepared products e.g. concrete paving slabs, a resonance vibrator with an oscillating mass-spring system is applied, which may be energised by a controllable energiser to produce forced oscillation of a given frequency and oscillatory amplitude. The resonant effect, making use of the proximity of the inherent resonance frequency and the exciter frequency permits a reduction in the size of the exciter force. According to the invention, along with an adjustment of the exciter frequency the resonant frequency is also simultaneously co-adjusted by means of a suitable adjuster, in order to be able to g make use of the resonance effect throughout the whole spectrum of the exciter frequencies to be carried out.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for compacting newly poured comparatively dry concrete or similar porous plastic raw materials (6) with a direct mechanically coupled 3-mass oscillatory system where the raw material in its confined form is vibrated and compacted from both sides by two vibrating planes with synchronized directional vibrations in phase opposition. Only one vibrating plane (M1) includes synchronized directional vibrators (4). Its other part (M3) is elastically coupled with (M1) by spacer means (8) (M2) arranged between a spring system (7) being so dimensioned that the parts is dynamically balanced whereby the two parts (M1) and (M3) oscillate in phase opposition close to or at the 2nd natural frequency of the system with a dynamic amplification of the amplitudes in relation to the impulses imparted from the vibrators (4) at the same time while (M2) is stationary. During the process (M1) and (M3) are carried towards each other by (M2) as the raw material is gradually compacted.

Abstract: A process of producing ICMUs (insulated concrete masonry units) having an inner load-bearing portion and one or two outer insulating portions are disclosed. Disregarding the insulation cores, heat flows from the outer side wall or walls to the inner portion through outer end walls and, in some embodiments, webs. These outer side walls and webs are heat bridges and are thinner and of significantly lower density than the other walls of the ICMU, thereby providing improved thermal insulation. Also disclosed are ICMUs with a vertical or horizontal recess in one outer insulating portion. Electrical conduit and/or plumbing can be placed into these recesses. In addition, corner ICMUs are disclosed which provide increased structural strength when used to construct a 90.degree. corner between two structural walls because of a special mid-wall in the corner ICMU.

Abstract: An apparatus for making composite sheets that are homogeneous, dense, and have an even surface. The apparatus comprises an oscillating plate unit that vibrates in a direction transverse to a belt means. Composite pre-mix is deposited on the conveyor belt which draws it under the oscillating plate. The oscillating plate has three sections: a curved plate section; an inclined plate section and a flat plate section. The composite pre-mix is metered by the curved plate section, compacted by the inclined plate section and maintained compacted by the flat plate section. These thus formed composite sheets may be cured and are particularly adapted for use in fuel cell structures such as electrode substrates.

Abstract: A pourable substance is introduced into a container having a perforated bottom which defines, together with a mold, a forming space which is to be filled with the pourable substance. The forming space has a configuration substantially corresponding to that of the preform to be made, and the pourable substance passes through the perforations of the bottom of the container and is distributed throughout the forming space, owing to vibrations to which the perforated bottom of the container, either alone or together with the container, is subjected. The pourable substance is compacted within the forming space due to the vibration of the perforated bottom so that the preform can be subsequently taken out of the mold and compressed elsewhere into a profiled article, or the profiled article can be produced from the preform directly in the mold.

Abstract: In a method of casting in a horizontal mould a hollow, reinforced tapering concrete post having a thin wall and particularly a length exceeding 10 to 15 m, there is placed in the mould a tapering reinforcing cage or basket in which a core, e.g. a steel core, is inserted to form a substantially annular mould chamber. Said mould chamber is closed with the exception of an upper filling slot. A readily pourable concrete mass is charged to the mould from above through said filling slot. The mould is then vibrated without being rotated such that concrete fills the annular mould chamber. Hardening of the concrete is accelerated by heating, and the core is withdrawn from the formed post before the concrete has completely hardened. The finished post is then removed from the mould.
