With Cooling By Contact With Solid Heat Sink Patents (Class 266/109)
  • Patent number: 7550050
Abstract: A method of cooling strip or wire products in which, subsequent to being annealed, the product is cooled to a temperature of about 20-50° C. below its oxidation temperature. The product is wound around a drum immediately downstream of an annealing path so that the product lies in mutually juxtaposed turns on the drum. It is thereafter unwound from the drum after a number of turns. The number of turns is such that the product is cooled to a desired temperature. The drum has a diameter that exceeds the diameter at which the product will be influenced mechanically by plastic deformation.

  • Patent number: 4704167
Abstract: In a cooling zone of a continuous annealing line engineered to continuously process longitudinally travelling steel strip, the strip is first slowly cooled to a desired temperature at a rate of not higher than 20.degree. C./sec. by means of a jet stream of cooling gas ejected against the surface of the strip and subsequently quenched to a desired temperature at a rate of not lower than 70.degree. C./sec. Thinner strip is quenched by high-speed gas-jet cooling that is effected by ejecting a jet stream of cooling gas against its surface, while heavier strip is quenched by bringing it into contact with the perimeter of cooling rolls cooled by a coolant. Namely, quenching is achieved either by high-speed gas-jet cooling or roll cooling depending on the thickness of the strip being processed.

  • Patent number: 4422623
Abstract: A steel strip heated to a temperature above a recrystallization temperature is passed through a cooling unit including a plurality of cooling rollers cooled by cooling water flowing through the interior thereof. The steel strip is caused to pass alternately about upper and lower surfaces of the cooling rollers. By raising and lowering alternate cooling rollers, the contact angle and therefore the contact area, i.e., the contact time between the strip and the cooling rollers is varied to change the cooling rate. When the cooling rollers are separated from the strip. Cooling water is filled into the cooling unit to directly cool the strip. Cooling gas may be ejected against the strip before it enters into the cooling unit.
