Patent number: 9187796Abstract: An inner-diameter quenching device is provided with a workpiece holding assembly for holding a workpiece to be quenched, a spray cylinder, and a heating coil. The workpiece has a central axis. The spray cylinder is disposed at a first side of the workpiece holding assembly and driven by a lifting assembly to move along the central axis into an inner diameter of the workpiece. The heating coil is disposed at a second side of the workpiece holding assembly and located on and movable along the central axis. The heating coil and the spray cylinder are separated and movable in opposite directions along the same center axis, which can further reduce the size of the quenching device, making it suitable for quenching a small inner-diameter workpiece. Besides, the spray apertures are inclined, so that the cooling liquid can be sprayed out more easily to enhance the quenching effect.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2013Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Assignee: HIWIN TECHNOLOGIES CORP.Inventors: Shih-Tien Chang, Kun-Hung Chi

Patent number: 5134264Abstract: A device for induction heating of the inside of cylinder liners of reciprocating-piston engines to a transformation temperature, for the purpose of hardening. An inductor head is equipper with an aligning device designed as a spreadable cage which is equipped on the outside with clamping bars, clamping bosses a clamping shells which can be applied free from play and under the effect of force against the inner surface of the cylinder liner. The inductor loop is also displaced radially and brought into the working position by means of these clamping shells. Heating and hardening is carried out only with the inductor head in the clamped and exactly aligned state, whereas, after the clamping shells and the inductor loops have been released, a further indexed movement of the inductor head is possible. The work is carried out at relatively high alternating-current frequencies in the range between 400 and 500 kHz and at relatively high energy densities in the range above 5 kw/cm.sup.2 .Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1991Date of Patent: July 28, 1992Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventors: Dieter Burger, Walter Burbock, Peter Linden

Patent number: 4468010Abstract: A method and apparatus of quench hardening to a desired depth the inner surface of an axially extending bore in an elongated, thin-walled workpiece having an outer, axially extending surface wherein the bore has a selected, uniform cross-sectional shape, which method and apparatus involves providing an inductor with an outer shape generally matching, but smaller than, the cross-sectional shape of the bore, supporting the workpiece with the axis entending vertically, energizing the inductor with a known frequency and at a selected power level, moving the energized inductor downwardly through the bore to inductively heat the inner surface progressively while applying no fluid quench to the inner surface, letting the workpiece cool and then moving the inductor upwardly through the bore to progressively heat the inner surface while progressively liquid quenching the inner surface immediately below and after the progressive heating operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1983Date of Patent: August 28, 1984Assignee: Park-Ohio Industries, Inc.Inventor: Donald E. Patent number: 4298189Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for the continuous hardening of pump casings by means of flame hardening, with or without modifications to the core characteristics. As a result the life of the thus treated pump casing is considerably increased, even if it is exposed to a high degree of wear. This is achieved in that the horizontally positioned pump casing is moved past the flame hardening apparatus about a vertical axis and is simultaneously moved out of the horizontal position in such a way that the cooling water is removed over the already hardened inner wall surface.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1980Date of Patent: November 3, 1981Inventor: Vinzenz Siller

Patent number: 4030711Abstract: Method and apparatus for flame hardening the inner wall surface of tube bends of a circular configuration wherein either a flame hardening burner is passed longitudinally through the internal cavity of a tube bend which is mounted in a fixed position, or alternatively the tube bend is moved over a stationary flame hardening burner. This relative movement between tube bend and burner is effected along a circular path corresponding to the longitudinal center line of the tube bend. Subsequently to flame hardening the heated inner wall surface of the tube bend is quenched with cooling water discharged from water sprinklers disposed downstream of the flame hardening zone. During flame hardening and quenching the tube bend is continuously maintained in positions such that the quenching water may leave the tube bend by gravity.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 1975Date of Patent: June 21, 1977Assignee: Esser-Werke GmbH vorm.
