Patent number: 8046934Abstract: The present invention concerns a convective system for a dryer installation for a passing web, more particularly paper. The convective system 7 is an assembly of an exterior casing 13 for suction of combustion products with opening 14 towards the web, with a first 15 and second 16 suction ducts sucking the combustion products into the convective system 7. The combustion products coming from the first suction duct 15 are guided through the exterior casing 13 to a mixing and blowing device 17. Cold air 18 is mixed in this mixing and blowing device 17 with the combustion products 19, resulting in a gas mixture with lower temperature 20. The convective system 7 also has an internal casing 21 inside the external casing 13. This internal casing 21 has at least one opening towards the web 22 and has also openings 34 allowing gas flow from the mixing device 17 to the internal casing 21 of said gas mixture 20. Under the internal casing 21, there is also a blowing duct 23.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2007Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignees: NV Bekaert SA, Bekaert Combustion Technology B.V.Inventor: Patrick Lenoir

Patent number: 4418893Abstract: The metal shell of a furnace or cupola is cooled by means of water flowing down over the exterior surface of the metal shell. In order to reduce heat loss and thus decrease the energy consumption, the interior surface of the metal shell is lined with a fired refractory shape. The thermal conductivity of the refractory material and its thickness are selected such that the amount of refractory material remaining upon reaching equilibrium conditions will be sufficient to maintain the mechanical and structural integrity of the lining. Refractory materials of different conductivities may be selected for various locations in the furnace depending upon the temperatures to be encountered.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1981Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: Combustion Engineering, Inc.Inventors: John A. Middleton, Thomas L. O'Dwyer

Patent number: 4009870Abstract: A metallurgical shaft furnace for producing metal from a charge which enhances the preheating capacity of upwardly flowing gases in an upper preheating portion of the furnace, the upper portion being formed from concentric sections which increase in diameter from the uppermost section to the lowermost section of the preheating portion of the furnace. Troughs are formed where adjacent sections meet to form cooling rings around the upper portion, the rings projecting inwardly from the furnace wall. The lower portion comprises a melting portion having tuyeres, a hearth and tap means. Vertical cooling conduits may be provided in the lower section with conduits adjacent each tuyere terminating above the tuyere to prevent damage to the conduits.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1976Date of Patent: March 1, 1977Inventor: Richard F.
