  • Patent number: 6260675
Abstract: A novel and improved magnetorheological fluid damper is provided which effectively secures a flux ring to a piston core in a manner which prevents relative axial and radial movement between the flux ring and the core throughout operation. The damper includes crimp portions formed on each end of the flux ring for engaging respective end plates positioned at each end of the piston core to secure the end plates and thus the flux ring to the piston core. One of the end plates may, in turn, function to maintain a piston rod in connection with the piston core. Specifically, each end plate functions as a spring device by being elastically deformed during a crimping process causing the end plates to apply a spring force against the flux ring. One of the end plates may also apply another spring force to the piston rod. A crimping method is also provided which effectively and efficiently permits crimping in a simple manner.

  • Patent number: 6241223
Abstract: An elastic mount, especially an engine mount for motor vehicles includes at least two resilient elements connected in parallel to each other. Through force applicators, the two resilient elements are connected selectively to a source of vibration. The mount includes a coupler for selectively engaging the force applicators with the resilient elements. The coupler includes a first coupling element and a second coupling element selectively connectable by an actuator to ensure that only low travel and force components are needed for selection and to ensure that an axial decoupling of the non-effective resilient element exists in the released condition. The second coupling element swivels to be selectively connected to the first coupling element by the actuator. The second coupling element is connectable to the force applicator of the second coupling element in the engaged condition and is configured as a rotary body swivelably mounted in the released condition.

  • Patent number: 6202806
Abstract: A controllable damper for resisting movement between two relatively moveable members includes a first member and a second member coupled for relative movement having a working space between them, and a controllable medium retaining structure, for example, an absorbent matrix, to hold a controllable medium only in the working space. A cage preferably supports the matrix. A field generating coil is mounted to one of the first and second members to generate a field acting on the first and second members and the controllable medium in the working space. The rheology change in the medium produced by the field results in resistance to relative movement of the first and second members. A device according to the invention may be used in apparatus, such as washing machines, exercise equipment, air supported tables, and a range of other apparatuses that would benefit from controlled damping or braking. Devices including a two-piece outer housing are described.

  • Patent number: 6189873
Abstract: A fluid sealed type vibration insulating device provided with an actuator for generating an active supporting force. The vibration insulating support device includes a main fluid chamber defined by a conical-shaped elastic support and a movable construction part. The movable construction part is constituted by a partition wall and a magnetic path member which is fastened to the partition wall through a clearance spacer. Therefore, a clearance is formed between the partition wall and the magnetic path and a plate spring is installed in the clearance to support the movable plate against the magnetic force of a permanent magnet. The partition wall has an internal thread hole to be bolted. The magnetic path has a hole with one opening diameter larger than another opening diameter for inserting a bolt. The bolt has a dish-shaped bolt head. If a center of the hole is off to the side of the center of the partition wall's hole, any edge point of the bolt head contacts any surface of the inner hole and pushes.
