Abstract: A layered cushion that may be fully disassembled for easy cleaning is disclosed herein. The sleep system is durable and fire retardant. The layered cushion may include a foam layer, a layer of void cells, and a cover. The foam permits fluids to move freely there through and contours to a user's body to maximize comfort and reduce interface pressure. The reticulated foam layer resists compression set and thermosetting. The layer of void cells also permits fluids to move freely there through and provide additional support to the user's body. The individual void cells of the void cell layer are perforated to allow the transmission of fluids there through. The cover couples the other layers together to form the layered cushion and prevents the layers from deteriorating. The cover is removable to permit cleaning each of the layers independently.

Abstract: A high tension coil spring structure for a bed mattress includes spring bodies and exposed wiring portions which absorb an external load. Diameter-increasing portions (A) are formed on at least one of upper and/or lower end wiring portions (14, 14?) of body wiring portions (12), and provide spaces in which upper and/or lower exposure start wiring portions (16-5, 16-5?) move upward and downward. Rigid support ends (18) are formed on at least one of the body wiring portions (12) and upper and lower exposed wiring portions (16, 16?), and absorb a compressive load. The diameter-increasing portions and the rigid ends of the coil spring structure fundamentally prevent noise caused by friction between the exposed wiring portions and surrounding wiring portions when the exposed wiring portions are compressed and significantly increase the elasticity of the exposed wiring portions.

  • Publication number: 20090020931
Abstract: An elastomeric load bearing surface with different load support characteristics in different directions. In one embodiment, the surface includes an elastomeric membrane that is oriented in only a single direction, for example, by compression or stretching. In another embodiment, the surface includes mechanical structures, such as connectors, variations in thickness and apertures, that vary the load support characteristics in different directions. In another aspect, the present invention provides a multilayer load bearing surface in which the layers cooperate to provide a controlled force/deflection profile that is variable in different regions of the surface. In one embodiment, the upper layer includes a plurality of loosely connected nodes and a lower layer having a plurality of resilient elements that separately support each node.

  • Patent number: 6862763
Abstract: A bedding or seating product comprising a spring assembly made up of a plurality of parallel strings of springs joined to each other. Each of the strings of springs comprises a row of interconnected pocketed coil springs. Selected pockets of fabric are shorter than adjacent pockets, so coil springs in the selected pockets are under a greater load than adjacent coil springs. In one preferred embodiment, every other pocket is under a greater load than the adjacent pockets, resulting in a checkerboard arrangement in at least one area of the product.

  • Publication number: 20040046297
Abstract: A high profile coil with an overall height in a range of 6¾ to 7½ inches maintains axially alignment under compression. A high profile innerspring constructed with the high profile coils can be baled with other high profile innersprings in a baling machine without spin-out or lateral distortion. On-axis of compression of the coils under various loading conditions avoids contact with adjacent coils in an innerspring.
