  • Patent number: 7766312
Abstract: A coil spring reduces Hertzian stress on a first turn and bending stress on a coil end. A coil end 11 is shifted in a diametral outer or inner direction of a coil spring relative to the first turn 13, to form a vertical gap between the coil end 11 and the first turn 13 in a free state without load on the coil spring. Due to the gap, the coil spring including the coil end 11 and first turn 13 can be entirely processed by shot peening as well as the remaining portion. The first turn 13 receives a combination of torsional stress and Hertzian stress (contact stress). Since the coil end 11 that receives high Hertzian stress is shifted in a diametral outer or inner direction of the coil spring relative to the first turn 13, a contact point on the first turn 13 is shifted in the diametral outer or inner direction to reduce the torsional stress on the first turn 13.

  • Patent number: 7677540
Abstract: A mechanism for converting the force from a linear extension spring into a constant force. A cable, connected to the spring, rides in a variable radius input pulley groove. A second cable rides in a variable radius output pulley groove. The dual pulley mechanism is smaller than previous spiral pulley mechanisms. The output force and stroke is a function of the sizes of both pulleys. A standardized design enables a small number of input and output pulleys to cover a large range of applications. An end plug in a helical spring can be used to make fine adjustments to the output force. The pulleys can be accurately phased relative to each other with a spline mechanism. The pulley grooves may lie in a plane, or they may advance in an axial direction as the pulley rotates. By continuously varying the rate of axial advance, the tangent to the groove can be aimed or focused at an external point. The focused groove reduces cable friction and wear.

  • Patent number: 6986508
Abstract: A spring holding cone (1) for a spring end of a spiral torsion spring (13), especially a sectional door spring for an industrial door or a garage sectional door, has an outside surface (2) for supporting the spring end of the torsion spring (13) at its inside diameter and fixing means for fixing the spring end to the spring holding cone (1) in a torque resistant way. The fixing means comprise a flank (5) which protrudes from the outside surface (2) and engages between the first spring turn (12) and the second spring turn of the torsion spring (13) at the spring end. The flank (5) extends over less than 180° of the circumference of the outside surface (2); and a securing element (6) extends over a flank-free area of the outside surface (2).

  • Patent number: 6926266
Abstract: A shock absorbing assembly reduces impact forces on a terminal of a spark plug that is mounted within a spark plug bore of an internal combustion engine when a pencil ignition coil is mounted thereto. The shock absorbing assembly includes a plug cup that is fixedly secured to the terminal end of the spark plug. A case cup is movably mounted to the plug cup. The case cup includes a resistor receptacle for receiving an end of a resistor therein. The shock absorbing assembly also includes a cup spring that extends between the plug cup and the case cup. The cup spring absorbs the impact forces of mounting the pencil ignition coil to the terminal of the spark plug.

  • Patent number: 6920965
Abstract: The present invention relates to a spot-type disc brake with a brake housing straddling a brake disc, with at least one brake pad that is arranged in the brake housing so as to be slidable in the actuating direction and cooperates tribologically with the brake disc upon brake application, with at least one actuating device arranged in the brake housing to apply an actuating force to the brake pad, and with a spring assembly for the active adjustment of a clearance between the brake pad and the brake disc after brake application. To simplify the configuration of the spring assembly, the spring assembly comprises exactly one spring which is secured detachably in the spot-type disc brake and is supported on the brake pad and on the brake housing. A spring of this type is arranged advantageously symmetrically within the brake housing to prevent an undesirable inclined positioning of the brake pads.

  • Patent number: 6857666
Abstract: There is provided a spring comprised of a wire which includes an elastic, coiled central portion and opposing end portions formed as hooks. Each hook terminates in an end having a hole therethrough. The spring is useful with an exhaust system of the type having a pair of sections joined but not affixed to one another to thereby form a flexible joint. A loop is fixedly connected to each section adjacent to the joint. The opposing hooks of the spring are securely received by the loops, and a safety wire is received through the hole in the end of each hook and secured to the corresponding loop. In an aircraft having an exposed exhaust system, the safety wire prevents a broken spring or loop from impacting and damaging vital components of the aircraft, particularly a pusher propeller positioned to the rear of the exhaust system.
