  • Patent number: 9376153
Abstract: A control device of the height adjustment for a bicycle seat post is a pull-down control device secured to the bottom end of the lower outer tube of the seat post. A linkage mechanism is managed by a controlling wire driving the main pin of the oil hydraulic mechanism to axially move upwards to adjust the height of the seat post. Besides, the control device includes the linkage mechanism instead of an oil hydraulic mechanism, so it requires less elements and avoids oil leaking as well as working hours consumed occurring in the prior art control mechanism of the height adjustment for a bicycle seat post. Consequently the control device increases the stability in operation and the speed in assembling.

Abstract: A fluid strut includes a frangible locking member including a generally cylindrical locking pin mounted to an outer cylindrical housing of the strut and extending radially inwardly toward a gas spring cylinder. The locking pin is movable between operative and inoperative positions. In the operative position, the spring-loaded frangible locking pin extends into engagement with the gas cylinder and can advance radially to a locking position once the outer housing extends beyond the location of the gas cylinder. In an inoperative position, the locking pin is held in a retracted position. The end of the locking pin has a reduced diameter, such that, if a purposeful force is placed upon the strut when in a locked position, the pin can shear, allowing the rod to be retracted within the cylinder and the closure member to be closed without damage.

Abstract: In lifting columns (1) for tables and similar articles of furniture and consisting of pipe profiles (2a, 2b) with intermediate slides (8), it is a problem that the profiles (2a, 2b) have relatively great dimensional tolerances. This means that the gap between two successive sections may vary relatively much, which causes a great play in the column. This is solved in that at least one of these sections (2a) at one of the slides (8) is formed with a local deformation of the wall inwards toward the slide to press the slide inwards against the following section (2b). The dimensional tolerances may be neutralized by suitable arrangement and selection of deformations as well as the force with which the deformation is made.

  • Patent number: 7051850
Abstract: The invention disclosed is a compact and lightweight hybrid pneumatic-magnetic isolator-actuator capable of large force, substantial stroke and bandwidth actuation with near frictionless operation and vibration isolation with very low break frequency. Pneumatic and magnetic forces are applied to a single carriage comprised primarily of a coaxially arranged air piston and coil. The carriage is driven relative to a frame or housing including an internally mounted cylindrical piston sleeve and magnetic actuator body. A combination of air bearings and air bearing piston construction provide for frictionless motion of the carriage relative to the frame. The pneumatic piston provides the actuation force for both static loads and low frequency dynamic loads. An integrally mounted sensor and control unit determine the pressure error resulting at the pneumatic piston.

  • Patent number: 7051852
Abstract: Starting devices are provided that are adapted to help hold the front end of a motorcycle down, especially in a “hole shot” or starting applications. The devices allow a rider to compress the suspension fork of the motorcycle down by about 3 to about 4 inches and temporarily lock the fork in a given position. Certain variations provide for selection one of a number of positions. Lock-down and automatic release are accomplished by pushing in a spring loaded lock button while the fork struts are compressed. A pin member interfaces with a stop member located on the fork to prevent decompression of the fork. Upon further compression of the fork (e.g., due to braking) the pin is released and the spring member draws the pin out of the way to allow clearance for free fork travel.

Abstract: A temperature responsive valve assembly for a gas spring includes a valve body, a seal, a bi-metal valve and a locking member. The valve body includes a flexible radial member defined along the outer periphery of the valve body. Each radial member includes a radially inward extending tab which engages the outer diameter of the locking member. The construction allows the temperature responsive valve assembly to be essentially “snapped” together. The locking member further includes axial spring feet which provide axial pressure upon the bi-metal valve to maintain engagement with the valve seat.

Abstract: A furniture pillar includes an upright tube and a guide bushing which is inserted into one end of the upright tube and has an inner circumferential surface which is a guide for a supporting tube of the furniture pillar. The guide bushing has a radially inner guide tube, the tube passage of which forms a guide. An annular insertion region extends radially outwards on an end region of the guide tube and is inserted with its outer circumferential surface into the upright tube. A plurality of circumferentially spaced ribs of the guide bushing adjoin the annular insertion region axially, and extend radially outwards from the guide tube to outer end surfaces which bear against the inner wall of the upright tube, forming open chambers between them towards the side facing away from the annular insertion region. The upright tube has a color coating which completely covers its outer circumferential surface. Continuous openings pass from the chambers through the guide tube to the interior of the guide tube.

Abstract: The invention relates to a continuously lockable adjusting device 1, consisting of a fluid-filled cylindrical housing 2, of a piston 4 which is axially movable in the housing 2 and which subdivides the housing 2 into two pressure chambers 5, 6 and is connected to a piston rod 3 which, sealed off at one end, penetrates the housing 2. A locking valve 7 has a closing member 13 and a manually actuable trigger tappet 8 together with a transmission disc 16, a tilting movement of the trigger tappet 8 causing the closing member 13 to be capable of being acted upon axially movably by the transmission disc 16 and causing the locking valve 7 to be capable of opening so as to connect the pressure chambers 5, 6 to one another. The transmission disc 16 of the trigger tappet 8 is in bearing contact on the closing member 13 axially in a play-free manner, and the trigger tappet 8 is fixed axially in this position with respect to the closing member 13.

  • Publication number: 20040061266
Abstract: A compression spring comprises a casing with a piston that is mounted on a piston rod being disposed for displacement therein. Two sectional casing chambers are provided in the casing, which are filled with pressure fluid and at least one of which is defined by the piston. A controllable first valve interconnects the sectional casing chambers in an open position and blocks the compression spring in a shut-off position. By way of an additional automatic valve between the sectional casing chambers, the compression spring, even when blocked, can be adjusted in the piston-rod push-out direction by a force being applied that is comparable to the push-out force that works in the push-out direction by the pressure of the pressure fluid. This provides for greater flexibility in use of the compression spring.

Abstract: An integral self-leveling gas shock strut with dual spring rates as a structural load support between a vehicle chassis and wheel. When the vehicle is driving at an inclined longitudinal pitch a gravity sensitive device within the strut governs a pilot valve which opens to allow a pressure input signal from strut piston compression deflection to close a high flow volume slave valve located between primary and secondary volumetric chambers, trapping gases within the primary chamber to provide a hard spring rate for the strut mounted on the vehicle's downhill side. Contrarily, a similar valve sequence in a companion strut mounted on the vehicle's uphill side opens gas flow communication to combine its primary and secondary chamber volumes, thus providing a soft spring rate and consequent leveling effect of the vehicle using only the pumping action of the strut pistons as a power source, requiring neither external power nor inputs.

  • Patent number: 6634627
Abstract: A pneumatic spring having a piston and rod assembly operatively mounted in a gas-charged cylinder tube which expands when an associated closure such as a lift gate of a vehicle is released from its locked position. The force of the pneumatic spring assists the swinging movement of the lift gate on its hinges relative to the bodywork of the vehicle. As the lift gate opens, the pneumatic spring expands with the piston rod telescoping outwardly of the cylinder tube, which operates to pull a dust tube normally surrounding the cylinder tube. This around the tube until a stop ring secured to the end of the dust engages a stop collar operatively mounted on the cylinder tube. This positively limits the expansion of the gas spring and thereby establishes the open position of the lift gate.
