  • Patent number: 6755408
Abstract: A vise with the precision to match the quality expected from a wire electrical discharge machine. A quality vise is provided to locate parts with extreme repeatability from part to part enabling production of parts with exact duplication. With the range of the vise opening a variety of sizes of parts may be held, and with the low compact profile of the vise there is a decrease likelihood of run into interference with the wire electric discharge machine while in the cutting operation. Due to the exposure of water in the cutting operation on the wire electrical discharge machine the vise is made from stainless steel. The vise comprising a body comprising sidewalls and a main alignment surface, the main alignment surface having a length and for contacting a workpiece along its length, with a solid stationary jaw extending from the main alignment surface for contacting the workpiece during clamping of the vise.

Abstract: A vise system including a plurality of jaws associated with a vise body. A first jaw is attached to a first shaft which are both slidable with respect to the vise body. A second jaw is attached to a second shaft which are both slidable with respect to the vise body independent of the first jaw and first shaft. A locking mechanism is associated with the first and second shafts for locking the first and second shafts, and first and second jaws, in place. The locking mechanism includes a first collet partially surrounding the first shaft, and an aligned second collet partially surrounding the second shaft. First and second stops are operatively connected to a handle so that as the handle is turned, the first and second stops engage the respective first and second collets to compress the collets over the shafts to immobilize them.

  • Patent number: 6409161
Abstract: The housing of a two station machining device has thereon a stationary jaw and two movable jaws reciprocable between open and closed positions relative to the stationary jaw by a pair of spaced slides that are reciprocable in a recess in the housing beneath the work surface. A piston in the recess has one end thereof secured to one of the slides and has its other end slidable sealingly in an axial bore and counterbore in the other slide. Normally the slides and the piston are retained resiliently in first limit positions in which the movable jaws are disposed in their open positions. Hydraulic fluid under pressure is supplied to the bore in the other slide beneath the head of the piston initially to move the piston and the one slide into second limit positions in which the jaw connected to the one slide is moved to its closed position, and then to move the other slide to a second limit position and its associated jaw to be moved to its closed position.

  • Patent number: 6308943
Abstract: A clamping tool holds a workpiece in place on a surface, for example in a machine tool, by a clamping bolt (2) which is moved into a workpiece contacting position by a locking piston (6). The bolt (2) and the piston (6) are slidable in respective bores (3, 4) in a housing (1) in which the clamping bolt (2) is locked in a workpiece supporting position by the locking piston (5, 6). For this purpose the locking piston (6) has a piston rod (5) with a wedging incline (8) cooperating with a respective wedging incline (2′) at an inner end of the clamping bolt (2). A tongue and groove combination is provided between the piston rod (5) and the inner end of the clamping bolt to facilitate the cooperation and force transmission between the piston rod (5) and the clamping bolt (2). A self-locking effect holds the locking piston in a working position until the self-locking effect is released.

  • Patent number: 6164635
Abstract: An improved vise with a fixed jaw and a movable jaw which is guided by a lead screw to move along a pair of ways guiding the movable jaw. The movable jaw is adjusted to maintain a face which is precisely parallel with a face of the fixed jaw. The movable jaw is constructed of an upper component which travels on the ways, and a U-shaped lower member which inserts and telescopes into the upper component. The two jaw members contact at a chamfered face which cants or tilts the upper jaw member so that the movable jaw construction can be leveled. Leveling assures that the upper and lower jaw members cooperate, thereby interacting with a tapered face between the two to change the relative angle. In effect, the movable jaw face is maintaining precisely parallel and overcomes off center mounting of a workpiece.

An aperture of the top jaw member having closed ends, and an open mouth surrounded by vertical walls, fits over the keypart of the top jaw member. The keypart can have a cross-section having portions resembling a double dovetail configuration. The aperture of the top jaw member has similar dovetail-shaped sections to receive the keypart. The keypart includes a takeup member having an arcuate keeper element secured and projecting from a surface of the keypart opposite the dovetail-shaped portions. The keeper element projects outwardly a small distance to seat on an inclined surface of the aperture very close to the vertical walls thereof. Thus the top member preferably is contacted by the keeper element at a location on the inclined surface within about 0.

  • Patent number: 6032940

The vise includes a vise screw driving a nut that drives the movable jaw in each of four indexed positions of the movable jaw. The nut provides a down pressure load on the movable jaw with a very low profile. The indexable jaws permit the vise to be adapted to hold four different types of products or workpieces. The movable vise jaw is guided with keys that protrude above the plane of the guideway surfaces of the vise, so that the nut can have a shield rib that completely fills the space between the guideway surfaces to prevent chips from building up in a recess between the rails formed with present vise jaw nuts. The movable jaw and the fixed jaw do not protrude toward the base of the vise beyond the plane of the guideway surfaces on the vise rails.
