A washer is affixed to the exit end of the handle. The washer defines an orifice and provides a surface for preventing a user's hand from slipping during use of the welding tool. A plurality of rods extends outwardly from the handle through the orifice. The rods are preferably affixed to the bottom plate at a base end and have a surface contacting end. The rods are sized to permit limited flexure, but to still be substantially rigid to effectively remove slag from a weld.

After grasping, the method includes aligning at least one of the first locating holes adjacent to at least one of the second locating holes to set an initial position of the second subcomponent with respect to the first subcomponent without releasing the first and second subcomponents. After aligning, the method includes forming a joint between the first and second subcomponents with a joining tool attached to a joining robot arm to thereby assemble the component. While the object is held in the second orientation with respect to the robotic manipulator, the robotic device may move the object to the target pose.

    Abstract: A method for error-proofing clamping operation performed with a reconfigurable clamp having a body, a locking member, a plurality of moveable pins for contacting an object, and a plunger is provided. The method includes applying a force to the plunger and sensing whether the plunger achieves a fully-depressed position, and releasing the force to the plunger and sensing whether the plunger achieves a fully-extended position. The method may additionally include applying the force to the plunger, contacting the object with the plurality of pins and sensing whether the clamp body achieves a predetermined position relative to a clamping device.

The plate has a planar vertical face for lying flat on the vertical jaw face. A second face engages the top horizontal face of the jaw. Alternatively, material on the plate may conform to the workpiece when hot and retain shape when cool.
