The clamp pad is configured to removably couple with the clamp arm while the clamp arm is pivotally coupled to the shaft assembly. The clamp arm includes a mortise and a pair of support gussets. The clamp pad includes a tenon and a pair of resilient projections where the tenon engages the mortise of the clamp arm and the projections contact the support gussets of the clamp arm.

Abstract: A point-welding clamp structure for side by side tightly clamping and locating different plate-shaped metal pieces in their true relative positions so as to facilitate the point-welding operation. The point-welding clamp structure includes a body section and a base section for clamping the different metal pieces. A second adjustment section is disposed on the body section and a third adjustment section is disposed on the base section. By means of operating the second and third adjustment sections, the metal pieces with different thickness can be securely clamped and located by the point-welding clamp structure.
Abstract: A method and system for centering and aligning manufactured parts of various sizes at an optical measurement station are provided. The system includes apparatus having a central axis substantially parallel to the measurement axis and including a plurality of members having open and closed positions. The members have holding faces which are substantially equidistant from the central axis during movement between the open and closed positions. At least one of the members applies a force on an exterior side surface of a part disposed between the holding faces during movement between the positions to reposition the part at the station. The repositioned part is centered and aligned with respect to the measurement axis at the station. The holding faces releasably hold the repositioned part in a holding position between the open and closed positions at the station.

A push rod extends along the axis through the outer body end. A rotary joint centered on the axis has an inner part on the inner body end and an outer part rotatable on the inner part about the axis. An axial actuator relatively axially shifts the body and the push rod and thereby clamps a workpiece between an end face of the rod and the outer part of the joint. An angular actuator pivots the push rod about the axis and thereby, when the workpiece is clamped between the rod and the joint, pivots the workpiece about the axis.
Abstract: A gripper system for a machine that processes printing material sheets has a gripper with a first clamping surface and a gripper pad, for cooperating with the gripper, with a second clamping surface. One of the two clamping surfaces is formed with a surface relief. The clamping surface which has the surface relief is placed in such a way that, when a narrow printing material sheet is gripped, the clamping surface is covered by the sheet only within a subregion of the clamping surface and, when it grips a broad printing material sheet, it is covered by the latter beyond the subregion. The surface relief is structured differently within the subregion than outside the subregion, in that it is provided within the subregion with an antideformation structure which protects the narrow printing material sheet from excessive clamping deformation.
Abstract: A fixturing device for holding a workpiece for processing by an induction hardening machine includes a first subassembly constructed and arranged to be attached to an induction coil subassembly which is movable into and out of position around the workpiece. A second subassembly, virtually identical in construction to the first subassembly, is attached to the induction coil assembly and the two subassemblies are spaced apart so as to face one another and so as to define therebetween a workpiece-receiving region. Each subassembly includes an L-shaped bracket with one leg configured for attachment to the induction coil assembly and the other leg configured with connecting rods for attachment to a holding block. There are three connecting rods, two in the form of cylindrical pins, and one, the center connecting rod, being externally threaded for connecting a holding block to the L-shaped bracket. The two cylindrical pins receive coil springs so as to spring bias the holding block.
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a thermoformable material along its peripheral edges includes a frame forming a channel therealong for receiving the peripheral edges of the thermoformable material. The channel has an opening formed between first and second edges of the frame. At least one retaining arm is pivotally connected to the frame along the first edge and includes a distal end. The retaining arm is pivotable between an open position to allow insertion of the peripheral edge of the thermoformable material into the channel and a closed position for clamping the thermoformable material between the distal end and the second edge.
Abstract: The present invention provides a bar clamp made of lightweight parallel metal bars, e.g., aluminum, having movable or adjustable contacting attachment bodies which allow the clamp to be used for various applications. The bar clamp of the present invention is equipped with a measurement gauge for accurate attachment of the contacting attachment bodies to the workpiece. The parallel bars are separated and secured to each other by spacers and the bars have tracks along the inner faces of their entire length along which the attachment bodies move. One embodiment of the present invention discloses how the attachment bodies can be replaced by large frames having multiple attachment bodies mounted thereon for holding the workpiece in a vertical or horizontal position. Also, various designs of the attachment bodies which are interchangeable are provided.
Abstract: A clamp is provided that has a pair of clamp bodies which each have an inner surface. The inner surfaces of each clamp body are oriented to face one another in a spaced parallel relationship. A pair of parallel scissors linkages are coupled to the device that operate to move the clamp bodies in parallel relation relative to one another. Each scissors linkage extends from one side surface of one clamp body to a corresponding side surface of the other clamp body. A threaded rod is coupled to the pair of scissors linkages between the clamp bodies and is oriented with its axis of rotation parallel to the inner surfaces of the clamp bodies. The threaded rod is operable to move the clamp bodies either towards one another or away from one another in spaced parallel relation by rotation of the rod. By operation of the rod, the device may be used as either a clamping device or an expansion device.
Abstract: A non-surface marring work piece lathe mate pad which is interposed and held between the work piece and a lathe's chuck jaws. Each lathe mate has two grooved surfaces extending around three of its sides and flattened front and back surfaces which engage the work piece and lathe's chuck jaw. Disposed within these grooves are two continuous expandable strap members which extend around the lathe mates and the chuck jaws to retain them in place. These end grooves in each lathe mate prevent slipping of the expansion members with respect to rotatable work piece holding chuck jaws.
Abstract: A work piece stock holding member that can be adjusted by a single handle or adjustment nut usable with a conventional channeled toggle clamp fixed to a working surface. The holding member has an internally and externally threaded collar having a single piece joined clamp engaging unitary washer. The collar's internal threads are received by the external threads of an inserted supporting bolt. An upper end adjustment handle is fixed to the supporting bolt to rotate in unison with the bolt. The vertical adjustment of the holding member relative to the working piece is performed by rotating this bolt's upper handle. On one side of the clamp's channel is another separate holed washer which bears against one side of the clamp, moves on its hole pass the central bolt and bears against an adjustment nut mount on the collar's external upper threads.

Abstract: A surgical needle holder has the facing surfaces of its jaws lined with memory alloy which is soft enough to distort around a needle when gripped between the jaws. A better grip on the needle is thus achieved. The surfaces of the inserts may be profiled with ribs to allow the alloy to be subject to a greater pressure per square centimeter locally and so more readily deformed.

Abstract: The invention is drawn to fixture stock for producing holding devices. The fixture stock is made from an elongated base plate having side rails along two parallel opposed longitudinal edges to define an intermediate, longitudinally extending space therebetween. An elongated jaw plate is disposed above the base plate and between the side rails and an elongated pad of resilient material is sandwiched between the base and jaw plates, which in turn are bonded to opposite sides of the pad respectively, whereby the base and jaw plates are resiliently connected for slight relative movement. The side rafts include a plurality of anchoring holes perpendicular to the base plate and extending through the base plate, and the side rails also include a plurality of thrusting holes parallel to the base plate and extending through the side rails toward the jaw plates. Preferably the jaw plate is split into a pair of separate portions, separated from each other by a filler strip.
Abstract: A precision holder for hand-held optical scanning digitization devices is provided in which varying thicknesses of source documents may be securely held to a flat table by a support which also functions as a guide along which the scanning device may be accurately and repeatedly moved. In one embodiment, the original document is held by a guide held by a double hinge arrangement and secured by springs pulling toward the table. In another embodiment, the guide is held to the table by springs in a frame and track assembly much like a guillotine. For more accurate use of the scanning device a scanner alignment tray is provided for attachment to allow precise use of scanning devices which do not have a suitable square side to fit against the guide of the described scanning table.

Abstract: The present invention relates in one aspect to a compressible and/or deformable microtome object holder. The object holder may be in the same or similar shape as a wide variety of previous object holders, comprising a specimen plate having a textured or grooved surface and a shank structure. The holder may further comprise a ball element on the opposite end of the shank structure from the plate. In this instance, the ball element serves as the means of mounting the holder to the microtome. At least the grippable portion of the holder which is held by the microtome is formed of a compressible and/or deformable substance. Preferably, the holder is unitarily formed entirely of a compressible and/or deformable substance. The invention allows an object holder to be held more securely and to be molded economically.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for holding a generally cylindrical workpiece for honing or otherwise machining an internal bore. The workpiece is held by a gripping surface over most of the innermost turn of a spirally wound spring and coil. The workpiece is grasped circumferentially over its outer surface without excess contact pressure at any particular point. A tendency of the machining operation to rotate the workpiece serves to secure the workpiece more tightly in position by tightening the outer turns of the spring band coil. A rotatable tensioning member acts under the influence of a biasing spring to decrease the diameter of the innermost turn of the spring band coil to bring the gripping surface into contact with the workpiece. A method for adapting the work-holding apparatus to smaller or irregularly shaped workpieces consists of molding an annular piece around the workpiece.

Abstract: A wrapping machine wherein article units are wrapped by a shrinkable web to form a package. The machine includes a conveyor which includes an upper article supporting run. The conveyor has regularly spaced openings and associated with the rear of each opening is a web pulling bar. Article units are fed to the conveyor run in timed relation to conveyor movement and a series of retarder bars, moving at a slower rate, pull the web in front of each article unit to be wrapped with the article unit then bearing against the retarder bar and being slowed to the speed of the retarder bar with the conveyor moving therebeneath. A clamp bar moves down behind each article unit, draws the web down behind the article unit and then clamps the web to the article unit. In advance of this, and before the clamp bar engages the article unit, web drawing means engages the web between two adjacent article units and draws the same down into the associated conveyor opening and engages the web with the article pulling means.
Abstract: A vice jaw support apparatus provides a novel support system for securement of splined and threaded work pieces within vice grippers or jaws. In a preferred form, the apparatus is formed of a polyethylene or other similar resilient material. In a preferred form, the apparatus defines a pair of plastic bodies which are interconnected by integral web portions joining the two bodies on opposite sides. The web portions are disposed for deforming outwardly when the two body portions are moved towards each other within the vice jaws. Each body contains a flange portion whereby the apparatus may be supported on the upper surfaces of associated vice jaws.
Abstract: Top jaw assemblies combined with a chuck. Each of these top jaw assemblies comprises a body having a base projecting radially inwardly when mounted to the chuck, a cylindrical wall in the body which with the base provides a cutout portion and in which a workable rotatable workpiece gripping member or "slug" is mounted and secured to the base. The slug's periphery or annular wall conforms to and engages the cylindrical wall and includes an opening having a counterbored hole in which a screw mounts and extends below the slug to thread to a threaded aperture in the base. The slugs are machinable to provide different gripping surfaces contoured to the configuration of different workpieces, and are rotatable to provide the necessary reset position for such gripping surfaces in relation to the different sized workpieces. The base can be slightly inclined so as to force the slug's diameter against the matching radius of the cylindrical wall when the slug is torqued to the base.

At least three legs are provided with structure for fixing the telescopic sections thereof in mutually fixed relationship. The apparatus includes structure for mounting the three legs at substantially equal distances from a common geometric axis of the structure for mounting. This structure for mounting allows pivotal motion with respect to the bottom plate. A first elongated jaw is mounted on the bottom plate. The first elongated jaw includes and elongated V-shaped open trough extending in the general direction of the elongation of the bottom plate and the first elongated jaw. The apparatus also includes a second elongated jaw also having an elongated V-shaped open trough in it. The apparatus includes structure for clamping the first and second jaws together.
Abstract: An apparatus for temporarily supporting a gutter during the installation thereof is described comprising a vertically disposed inner frame member adapted to be movably secured to the fascia board positioned adjacent the edge of the roof. A horizontally extending bottom frame member extends outwardly from the lower end of the inner frame member. An outer frame member extends upwardly and outwardly from the outer end of the bottom frame member. A horizontally disposed support extends between the inner and outer frame members above the bottom frame member adapted to support the bottom of the gutter. A plurality of the apparatuses are mounted on the fascia board in a spaced-apart relationship. The gutter is then positioned on the apparatuses and then nailed to the fascia board in conventional fashion. After the gutter has been nailed to the fascia board, the apparatuses are removed.

Received within the casing members are a plurality of balls, arranged in layers. Certain of the balls are spring-biased to urge the top and bottom casing members away from each other. In one embodiment of the invention, certain of the balls protrude through the top casing member and adapt to clamp objects of varying geometrical configurations. As forceful engagement is attained, the balls of the device compress and interlock with each other. In another embodiment of the invention, the top casing is without holes and the apparatus may then be used to achieve forceful engagement with an angled surface such as in a clutch mechanism.
Abstract: A tire building machine utilizes a ply-down and bead set assembly in which an array of axially projecting spring fingers are used. The fingers are secured between two nested rings which are constructed to interfit with each other and with each finger so that each finger may be inserted or removed without affecting adjacent fingers. One of the rings has projections interfitting with the fingers in their normal position and one of the rings may be locally deformable to assist in the insertion and removal of the fingers.
Abstract: A toggle clamp has a bolt carried by a swinging clamping arm for generally axially and limited arcuate movement in a clamping operation against a workpiece. The clamping end of the bolt is removably secured within a socket in a polyurethane work engaging bumper and seated against the socket base. By virtue of the physical characteristics of the polyurethane and interference fit between the bolt and the socket wall throughout an appreciable axial extent, the assembled bolt and bumper are capable of withstanding the axial and radial forces of repeated clamping operations and outwearing comparable assemblies available heretofore without recourse to a chemical bond between the bolt and bumper or an enlarged force distributing bolt head as has been required heretofore.
Abstract: A holder enabling the user to easily and accurately split compressed medical tablets into equal halves having blunt, specifically curved steel jaws to which are permanently affixed resilient rubber cushioning pads, a means for securely holding compressed tablets of all shapes and sizes by means of the thumb and forefinger and to effect splitting by exerting a flexing force appropriately damped along a line which is congruent to the axis of said jaws of the device, a means to preserve the cohesion of the tablet's granulation so that after splitting, each half of the tablet will maintain its original state.
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for laterally clamping workpieces to be machined to a machine tool and in particular for clamping awkwardly-shaped or high workpieces.The device is characterized in that it comprises at least one slide provided with an anchoring element movable in translation in the slide by the thrust exerted by pressure-applying means, the active part of the anchoring element, projecting from the front face of the slide, having at least one rigid abutment zone and a slightly flexible zone.
