Patent number: 5544559Abstract: An adjustable stop mechanism for limiting the movement of a rip fence toward the cutting plane of a tiltable panel saw as an automatic function of the selected orientation of an abutment bar. The abutment bar has first and second orientations alternately presenting an abutment face of relatively low height, located at a greater distance from a reference surface, and a relatively greater height, located at a relatively shorter distance from the reference surface. When the abutment bar is rotated to the low height orientation, as to accommodate tilting of the panel saw blade, a limit stop position of movement of the abutment bar toward the cutting plane is automatically altered, so that the limit stop for the abutment bar support is farther away from the cutting plane. When the bar is oriented to present a full height abutment face, the limit stop automatically is altered in response to such orientation, to permit the support to move closer to the cutting plane.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1994Date of Patent: August 13, 1996Assignee: Wilhelm Altendorf GmbH & Co. A clamp secures a long work piece at its center to the mandrel intermediate the ends of the mandrel and a flexible steel band is wrapped tightly and progressively about the mandrel on either side of the clamp to bend each end section of the work piece about and conform it to the shape of the mandrel.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1992Date of Patent: March 15, 1994Inventor: Leonard F. Patent number: 5228666Abstract: A fixture for fabricating a full width scanning or imaging array from a plurality of relatively short subunits which provides immunity from vertical misalignment of the subunits caused by particle contamination. This is accomplished by providing a clearance slot in the fixture horizontal reference edge to minimize the reference edge and subunit contact area and to provide a space for the contaminating particles to accumulate so that they will not interfere with the precision placement and vertical alignment of the subunits on the fixture.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1991Date of Patent: July 20, 1993Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Donald J. Patent number: 4909111Abstract: A saw table suitable for use with a portable circular saw comprises a bed, and upstanding therefrom adjacent the rear end a pair of walls meeting at an apex including an angle of 90.degree. pointing towards the forward end, forming a miter fence. A pair of axially aligned transversely spaced rails are supported about the bed for engagement of the soleplate of the circular saw for movement along channels provided in the rails. The table is intended for use by pulling the saw through a workpiece to be cut, and the saw is normally parked rearwardly of the miter fence. Supplementary tables to overlay the bed are provided for cross-cutting, and bevelling.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1988Date of Patent: March 20, 1990Inventor: Walter E. Noble

Patent number: 4882960Abstract: A lawn mower blade lock is provided which is especially useful for servicing a lawn mower by enabling both lifting one side of a lawn mower to expose the blade and simultaneously securing the blade of the mower against rotation during efforts to remove the blade. The lock includes a handle and a pair of blade constraining barriers which extend beneath the mower deck and resist rotation, combined with a locking mechanism which attaches to the mower deck. The locking mechanism preferably includes a threaded shank which clamps the mower deck between the barriers and an abutment on the shank for resisting rotation of the blade relative to the deck. In this manner, the lock is easy to attach and remove, and thus is also useful during storage of the mower to prevent inadvertent starting of the lawn mower by children. Moreover, the lawn mower blade lock is economical to construct and easy to attach.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 1988Date of Patent: November 28, 1989Inventor: Jack L. Kugler

Patent number: 4871156Abstract: A mat cutting machine utilizes a trolley which runs smoothly and accurately along a shaft mounted upon the clamping bar assembly. Means is provided for precisely adjusting the relationship between the bevel cutting blade and the edge of the clamping bar, and the blades are held by magazines which permit ready interchangeability and facile adjustment of the amount of blade protrusion so as to enable the cutting depth to be altered with considerable ease. The base of the machine includes means for accurately positioning the workpiece, and for readily controlling the travel of the trolley, to afford high volume production capability.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1988Date of Patent: October 3, 1989Assignee: The Fletcher-Terry CompanyInventors: Vincent T. Patent number: 4832324Abstract: A fixture includes a base having an index surface. The index surface has a reference hole, 360 positioning holes formed about the reference hole and angularly equally spaced from each other at an interval of one degree, and a plurality of fastener holes formed through the base around the positioning holes. A reference post is inserted removably into the reference hole for abutment of a workpiece thereon. A positioning post is inserted removably into selected one of the positioning holes for abutment of the workpiece thereon. A press member is inserted removably into selected one of the fastener holes and is adjustable to press the workpiece against the indexing surface of the base for holding the workpiece on the base, so that a diagonally provided part of the workpiece to be cut is in parallel with the movement direction of a movable work table.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1987Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Inventor: Yan H. Patent number: 4803772Abstract: A system and method for increasing machine utilization and for minimizing tool changeover time comprising a storage and retrieval system located in near proximity to a press or a machine line for storing a plurality of dies or tooling fixtures, a pair of conveyors, one installed on each end of each machine bed so that a plurality of dies or tooling fixtures can be pre-staged thereon for utilization in machine or transferred thereto for inspection, cleaning and preparation for reuse and subsequent storage in the storage system. With respect to tooling, and the machines themselves, each machine is provided with at least two hydraulic actuated clamps, at least two locators, one having a locator post formed therein. Both the actuator clamps and the locators are positioned on a solid bed. Tooling modification includes the installation of sub-plates having a V-shaped slot which when used in conjunction with the locator post, provides for rapid and accurate positioning of each tooling fixture on the machine.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1987Date of Patent: February 14, 1989Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventor: Steven J.
